FOOD CITY. TOMORROW THE WEEK DEDICATED TO FOOD CULTURE AND SOLIDARITY KICKS OFF WITH MONSIGNOR DELPINI AND THE MUNICIPALITY OF MILAN
A great food festival open to all including art, sport and culture in the name of attention to others


Milan, 2 May 2019 – Attention to others, the culture of healthy eating and the fight against food waste return as protagonists in the city from 3 to 9 May. They will be the representatives of the Municipal Administration with the Archbishop of Milan, Msgr. Mario Delpini will kick off the third edition of Milano Food City tomorrow, at 17.30 pm, at the Refettorio Ambrosiano. The event was born from the collaboration between the Municipality of Milan, the Chamber of Commerce of Milan Monza Brianza Lodi, Coldiretti Lombardia, Confcommercio Milano Lodi Monza and Brianza, Fiera Milano, the Giangiacomo Feltrinelli Foundation, the Umberto Veronesi Foundation and Assolombarda to make the Lombard capital the focus reference point in the Italian food world. A six days in which Milan will be animated by talks, itineraries, events, meetings, art, tastings and cultural-gastronomic experiences in a great celebration of food and food culture.

During the inauguration of the event, the work "Hands for bread" will be presented by the artist Safet Zec who, having escaped from his native Bosnia, overwhelmed by a fratricidal war in the 4s, found refuge with his family in Italy, which has become a second homeland. Before returning to Sarajevo, the work "Mani per il pane" can be admired at the Refettorio Ambrosiano from 6 to 13 May thanks to the extraordinary opening of the public solidarity canteen and guided tours with the permanent collection of the Refettorio. On the occasion of the Milan Food City, citizens will be able to be accompanied by special guides to admire together the work of Safet Zec, the installation Nomoreexcuses (No more excuses) by Maurizio Nannucci, the Porta dell'Accoglienza by Mimmo Paladino, the sculpture Stoup by Gaetano Pesce, the painting Pane Metafisico by Carlo Benvenuto, the fresco Homo Novus by Enzo Cucchi and the XNUMX site-specific tables created by great names in design (Info and reservations on the website www.caritasambrosiana.it).

A preview of the contents of Milano Food City 2019 will be available tomorrow morning, at 8.30 am in Palazzo Bovara at the Circolo del Commercio of Confcommercio Milano (Corso Venezia 51), where representatives of the Municipal Administration and the Lombardy Region as well as the leaders of the promoters of the event will experience the "ideal breakfast" in the name of a correct lifestyle in an unusual show cooking with Andrea Aprea, two Michelin star chef of VUN; Alessandro Servida, pastry chef Maestro Ampi; the Master chocolatier Alberto Simionato, teacher of the Chocolate Academy Milano Matteo Cunsolo, president of the Bakers' Association who, supported by the nutritionist of the Umberto Veronesi Foundation, Elena Dogliotti, will explain how to obtain from breakfast the right and balanced caloric intake necessary to face the day. The whole city will be involved in the name of good morning, with the "Healthy Breakfast Week" in the public establishments that will join the initiative promoted in collaboration with Epam and Fipe. A pleasant moment of tasting, but also of reflection on the importance of starting the day well with a careful eye on the suggestions of the "Decalogue of a healthy breakfast" created by the Umberto Veronesi Foundation which will be distributed free of charge to all customers for the entire week.

At the center of Milan Food City, again this year, the solidarity initiative #piusiamopiudoniamo which already in 2018 made it possible to donate 15 tons of food made available by the companies involved in favor of Banco Alimentare della Lombardia, Caritas Ambrosiana and Pane Quotidiano in representation of all the organizations that are responsible for collecting and distributing food in the city. To donate, all you need to do is "play" to stay fit with #piugioriamopiudoniamo on the occasion of the Expo for Sport, which from 2 to 5 May will transform the Civic Arena into a sports playground where children aged 4 to 14 will be able to venture out in over 30 disciplines to discover, learn about and test firsthand many activities dedicated to fun, sharing and solidarity.
