Milan, October 8 2020 – The exhibition “Frida Kahlo - The chaos inside” opens on October 10th at the Fabbrica del Vapore, a technological sensorial journey to immerse yourself in the life of the great Mexican artist, exploring her artistic, human and spiritual dimensions.

“An exhibition that immerses you in the tradition and colors of Mexico and that allows you to get closer to Frida Kahlo and her life in a new way, an opportunity to meet and get to know Mexican culture, through the story of one of the most significant women of the last century - comments Deputy Mayor Anna Scavuzzo -. Frida Kahlo is a passionate and exciting artist, an icon that we know and who at the same time is a woman who still has a lot to say and make us discover herself. The Steam Factory continues to amaze us, careful to combine new technologies and art, an ideal place to experiment, innovate and make people look at art from multiple points of view".

The exhibition represents a unique opportunity to enter the environments where the painter lived; to understand, through her writings and the reproduction of her works, her poetics and her fundamental relationship with Diego Rivera; to experience, through her clothes and her objects, her daily life and the elements of popular culture so dear to the artist.

Frida Kahlo represents a central figure of Mexican art and certainly the most famous Latin American painter of the 1907th century. With her husband Diego Rivera, one of the most important muralists in Mexico, they form one of the most emblematic couples in the history of world art. Born in XNUMX, south of Mexico City, she inherits and makes her the values of the Mexican Revolution, including a love of popular culture.

After a multimedia section with animated images and a history told through the dates that most marked the personal and artistic events of the painter, with her phrases and quotes alternating with famous photographs, the exhibition comes to life with the meticulous reproduction of the three most lived-in environments from Frida to Casa Azul, the famous Mexican mansion built in French style by Guillermo Kahlo in 1904 and a destination for tourists and enthusiasts from all over the world.

This is followed by the 'Colors of the soul' section with the magnificent photographic portraits of Frida taken by the famous Colombian photographer Leonet Matiz Espinoza (1917-1988) and, on the upper floor, the section dedicated to Diego Rivera, where the most evocative letters are projected that Frida wrote to her husband, accompanied by the sound in the original language.

A room was then dedicated to popular culture and art in Mexico, which had such an influence on Frida's life, treated on large graphic panels where the origins, revolutions, iconography and elements of craftsmanship are told. The focus on Mexican tradition also continues with the section dedicated to some of the most well-known murals created by Diego Rivera in various parts of the world.

And again, in an adjacent room you can admire seven plaster busts that as many contemporary artists wanted to rework, taking inspiration from the corsets that Frida had to use throughout her life and that she painted. While in the 'Frida and her double' section, reproductions in modlight format (a particular form of homogeneous backlighting) of fifteen of the most well-known self-portraits that Frida created during her artistic career are exhibited. In the screening room you can then see a special documentary on Frida's life: "Artists in love: Frida Kahlo & Diego Rivera".

The final space is instead reserved for the playful and entertaining part of the exhibition: the 10D multimedia room concludes the exhibition itinerary. With a combination of very high resolution videos, sounds and special effects, suitable for adults and children. A workshop is also dedicated to children and school visits to introduce them to the works of art of this extraordinary painter.

The exhibition is produced by Navigare with the Municipality of Milan, with the collaboration of the Mexican Consulate in Milan, the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Mexico, the Leo Matiz Foundation, the Banco del Mexico, the Mexican Oscar Roman Gallery, the Detroit Institute of arts and the Museo Estudio Diego Rivera y Frida Khalo, the exhibition is curated by Antonio Arévalo, Alejandra Matiz, Milagros Ancheita and Maria Rosso.
