Steam factory. The guidelines for the construction of a hostel have been approved

Milan, 27 December 2020 – The guidelines for the construction of a hostel at the Steam Factory, on the second floor of the Liberty Building, conceived as a guesthouse and used over the years as a place of hospitality for artistic residencies promoted by the concessionaires of the spaces, have been approved by the Council.

The idea is to offer a temporary residence space that combines economic accessibility, especially for young people, with a level of quality that creates added value through the creation and promotion of cultural activities aimed at customers and the city.

“The objective is to make Fabbrica del Vapore increasingly a social, creative and cultural catalyst for the city - comments Deputy Mayor Anna Scavuzzo -, continuing with actions and projects that confirm its role as a center for the production and enjoyment of culture. Valuing Palazzina Liberty through the creation of residences and spaces for artistic training and research activities aims to further promote the dimension of the Fabbrica as a place of aggregation, entertainment and a pole of attraction for new talents".

The total surface area is 448 square meters and is divided over two floors: two rooms on the ground floor and seven rooms on the second floor, as well as common areas and toilets. The type of accommodation facility, the management of which will be entrusted for nine years, must be a creative "youth hostel" (not mere hotel hospitality) and particularly aimed at students, young workers and young artists under the age of 35. Furthermore, on the ground floor, shared spaces must be equipped for work, for cultural and artistic events, for training courses, as well as those for the reception and information service on the activities present in the Steam Factory.

To award the tender, which will be published at the beginning of 2021, both the qualitative elements (such as management, artistic-cultural activities, any adaptation or improvement work on the property) and economic elements (increase in the offer compared to to the annual concession fee based on the tender amounting to 10 thousand euros).
