Steam Factory. The musical 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' opens on November 8th

Milan, October 11 2019 – The Steam Factory Cathedral is transformed into a theater to host, from 8 November, 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', the musical based on the novel by Roald Dahl. Milan is the only Italian city to host the show, directed by Federico Bellone (Mary Poppins, Dirty Dancing, Fame, The Bodyguard, West Side Story), suitable for everyone, adults and children. 

Over two hours of show, with live music performed by 18 musicians, directed by Maestro Giovanni Maria Lori, and with choreography taken care of in detail by Gillian Bruce, special effects by Paolo Carta (already author of the special effects for Mary Poppins) and costumes by scene. In the main role of Willy Wonka there will be Christian Ginepro, a multifaceted and transversal actor, with more than twenty years of career as a protagonist in musicals behind him.

'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' debuted directed by Sam Mendes (American Beauty, latest James Bond films) in 2013 in London, remaining on stage at the Theater Royal, Drury Lane for almost 4 years and reaching the highest grossing weekly in the history of English theatre, and then moved to New York. 

The show's booklet is by David Greig (writer for the Royal Shakespeare Company), the songs by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Sister Act, Hairspray, Mary Poppins Returns), and Leslie Bricusse (Academy Award Winner, The Candy Man, Victor Victoria) and Anthony Newley.  

The musical is based on the book of the same name by Roald Dahl (published in Italy by Salani) and on the films "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" of 1971, with Gene Wilder and considered one of the 50 cult films in the history of cinema, and that 2005 with Johnny Depp, directed by Tim Burton, which grossed around 500 million dollars.

The show is created in collaboration with the Municipality of Milan and co-produced by Silvia Franco - LaboratoriEFFE srl - Ariston Sanremo.

Ernst Knam, maître chocolatier and "King of Chocolate", has become the supporter of the musical and will be involved in a series of initiatives, such as the creation of some chocolate statues, which recall significant moments from the musical, and cakes celebrating the most important events and a series of chocolate products that spectators will be able to purchase at the Fabbrica del Vapore.
