Former Marchiondi. Municipality and Foundation of the Milanese university college for regeneration

Milan, May 13 2022 – The former Marchiondi is preparing to become a university residence with a redevelopment project financed with PNRR funds: a policy resolution was approved today by the Council on the project, the result of the joint work of the Municipality, together with the Prefecture and the Superintendence for cultural heritage.

The proposal comes from the Fondazione Collegio delle Universiti Milanese, which in February presented an expression of interest to the Administration. Since 2014 the complex has been included in the Real Estate Disposal and Development Plan for its concession of surface rights, and in this very form the Foundation has asked to acquire it for 40 years, together with the relevant park, to create a university residence called " College of Merit", with approximately 168 accommodation places, training, cultural and recreational spaces, also open to citizens.

"Life from art" is the name of the project chosen by the Foundation: the structure will in fact be open in particular to students of faculties related to the figurative, musical and performing arts. The plan, "Living to the next level. A multifaced art-life community project", involves the creation of accommodation for university students, researchers and young artists engaged in internships, recovering the entire complex with spaces for catering, cafeteria and kitchen, rooms dedicated to music, art and also tailoring, library, team work spaces, laboratories, gym. Artistic, musical and dance training services in coordination with the world of work, scholarships and themed competitions complete the program.

This is a conservative renovation, which safeguards the signature architecture by consolidating the existing structures and also completing the original project with a planned but never built building, maintaining the educational function for which it was built. The financial economic plan is subordinated to the granting of funds made available by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) with resources from the PNRR: this is the fifth call for implementation of Law 338/2000, with which the State can co-finance up to 75% of interventions for the construction of university accommodation and residences.
