Drought emergency. Amendments to the Ordinance of 25 June to protect public green areas

The text of the ordinance Milan, July 16 2022 – The union ordinance which modifies the previous provision “Water saving and limitations for the use of drinking water during the drought period” of 25 June has been published on the website of the Municipality of Milan.  The new text confirms the ban on water withdrawal for watering plants, shrubs, gardens and lawns, except from 22 pm to 8 am, in order to avoid evapotranspiration phenomena. Drip systems and the activities of tankers which water trees and green areas not reached by irrigation systems 24 hours a day are excluded from the limitations.  The ban on filling ornamental fountains, garden basins and swimming pools on private areas has been confirmed, with the exception of ornamental fountains, garden basins and swimming pools which require water recirculation; all bodies of water with the presence of fish fauna and flora; all those fountains which for technical-operational reasons must remain switched on and/or be filled so as not to jeopardize the future restoration of the system.  As clarified previously, wetting of sports fields is permitted, always limiting the use of water as much as possible. Lawns and gardens can be watered thanks to groundwater wells or, indirectly, from geothermal plants with storage systems. Trees and shrubs planted less than 3 years old can continue to be watered. Watering of educational and green gardens maintained by Associations and Collaboration Agreements is permitted.  The invitation to all citizens to implement behaviors aimed at rational and correct use of drinking water remains confirmed.
