Milan, 1 July 2022 – The measures contained in the union ordinance of 25 June to combat the persistence of the drought do not represent a definitive solution to the problem but are a set of good practices aimed at avoiding waste and promoting conscious use of water.

For an easy and immediate interpretation of the restrictions that have come into force:

  • watering. It is suggested that these always take place in the evening hours to minimize evapotranspiration. Drip systems can continue to operate. Allow wetting of sports fields, always limiting the use of water as much as possible. Lawns and gardens can be watered thanks to groundwater wells or, indirectly, from geothermal plants with storage systems. Trees and shrubs planted less than 3 years old can continue to be watered. Watering of educational gardens and greenery maintained by Associations and Collaboration Agreements is permitted;
  • cleaning of courtyards and squares. It is advisable to reduce these activities to a minimum and carry them out after sunset to avoid water evapotranspiration, always favoring the collection of water in the sewer system;
  • cars, motorbikes and private vehicles. Washing in public or private areas is prohibited, except for car washes;
  • ornamental fountains, swimming pools. Only those that require the recirculation of existing water can continue their operation. The naturalistic fountains and pools of water with the presence of fish fauna and flora remain in operation and the fountains which for technical reasons could suffer serious damage from being turned off.
