Rights on display

Milan, November 19 2019 – Wednesday 20 November is the thirtieth anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of Children and Adolescents, approved by the United Nations General Assembly in 1989. The historic march organized by the association 'Racism is a bad story', in collaboration with the UNICEF Committee of Milan, will start at 9.30 am from Piazza Santo Stefano and will travel along Via Larga, Piazza Fontana, Piazza Duomo, Via Orefici, Piazza Cordusio, Via Broletto, Va Cusani, Largo Cairoli, Via Luca Beltrami, and then end at around 11 am in Piazza del Cannone, where Education Councilor Laura Galimberti will be present to greet children and teenagers.

During the day, the councilor will also visit the nursery schools in via Palermo, via Quadrio, via Pastrengo and Bastioni di Porta Venezia. These are just some of the seventy nursery schools and nurseries of the Municipality of Milan who have joined the 'Rights on display' initiative, organized by the Department of Education to celebrate the important anniversary of the Convention. The educators created a journey with the children which led to the creation of projects that will be displayed outside (on the gates or around the neighborhood) and inside the individual structures to raise awareness throughout the area.

To promote in particular the rights of children to move in an active and sustainable way and to live in a safe and non-polluted environment, the 'School roads' initiative was also created, organized by Massa Martocchi, Genitori Antismog and Fiab Milano Ciclobby in collaboration with the departments of Mobility and Education, the local Police and many parents' associations, to give the children of some Milanese schools and their families a special afternoon, transforming the streets in front of their schools into play spaces: tomorrow afternoon they will therefore be closed to traffic on the viale Molise service road (from Piazzale Cuoco to via Monte Velino), via Colletta (from via Lattanzio to viale Umbria), via Moscati (from the Corso Sempione service road to via Londonio), via Balilla (from via Gentilino to via Tabacchi) , via Bergognone (school side, from via Cola di Rienzo to piazza del Rosario), via Stoppani (from piazzale Lavater to via Zambeletti), via Sacco (from via Seprio to piazza Sicilia), where the Mobility councilor will be present at 14.30 pm Marco Granelli, and via Pisacane  (from via Goldoni to piazza Fratelli Bandiera), where councilor Galimberti will be present at 15.30 pm.

In these days the Boys and Girls Municipal Councils are also being established: after Municipalities 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9, Municipal Council 1 will be established tomorrow, at 17.30 pm in the Hall of the municipal council of Palazzo Marino, in the presence of the Councilor for Education, who will subsequently (at 18.45 pm) participate in the seventh edition of 'Yes we can' in the Aula Magna of the Manzoni in via Deledda 11: the meeting between former students of the CIA and current members to talk about success stories. The CIA will also present itself to all those who are curious to learn more about the proposed routes on November 22nd, from 10am to 18pm (councillor Galimberti will participate at 16pm), during the “Terra! Choose your path”: tests, interviews and workshops for training orientation, free and open to everyone, aged 12 to 25.

Finally, two meetings will be held tomorrow for sector operators and families (free entry while places last):

  • from 9am to 13.30pm, at the Trotter Park Church (via Giacosa 46): 'Art as Education. The right to Beauty: a reasonable utopia'
  • from 17pm, at the auditorium of the IC Quintino Di Vona-Tito Speri (via Sacchini 34): 'Legality and correct use of new technologies'.
