Education. From Banco BPM 40 tablets and 200 computers for school children in Milan

Milan, July 15 2020 – Municipality of Milan and Banco BPM announce that 240 devices have been donated to Milanese school students: forty tablets and two hundred computers for children in vulnerable conditions enrolled in six Milanese comprehensive schools. In this way, Banco BPM also responded to the appeal launched by the Mayor Giuseppe Sala and the Councilor for Education and Instruction Laura Galimberti to support the schools of Milan with donations of devices or connections.

The devices were donated to schools which, based on a questionnaire filled out by school managers during the Coronavirus emergency and periodically updated by the Education Department, had reported a greater need. They are schools in neighborhoods in difficulty or with accentuated segregation phenomena. The principals of the individual institutes will then identify the students who will use them, even at home, for academic recovery. A heritage that every school must build today to meet any needs of children "at a distance", but also to imagine specific digital training at school.

“Schools - declares councilor Galimberti - were the first to suffer the consequences of the spread of the health emergency linked to Coronavirus. To ensure that this situation did not contribute to exacerbating the differences between children, we immediately committed ourselves to identifying the IT and digital needs of families, in order to direct interventions, and we asked private individuals to support the institutes with donations . To date, we have delivered more than 1.500 devices and we are happy that the response to the initiative has been so broad because it once again demonstrates the generosity of Milanese citizens and companies. We therefore welcome with great enthusiasm the important donation from Banco BPM which will allow many children to have a tool to continue their studies and scholastic recovery in the coming months. But also, why not, to participate in educational games, such as the "virtual" treasure hunt launched by the Municipality".

“In such a complex moment, caused by the health emergency of recent months – declared Umberto Ambrosoli, President of Banca Aletti and of the newly established Banca Popolare di Milano Foundation – the Banco BPM group has decided to meet the needs of the little ones to facilitate them in continuing their educational learning. The Bank once again puts its territorial vocation into practice by applying the principle of giving back to the community, therefore choosing to support projects aimed at children and families. We are proud, in fact, to contribute with a small gesture to making the relationship between students and their school easier, today from home, tomorrow also in class."

In a context in which sociality will necessarily continue to be reduced and technology will consequently still play an important role, the Municipality will continue to collect donations throughexploratory notice published and aimed at foundations, companies, third sector bodies.
