Galimberti: “It is necessary to meet the needs of families in this complex period”. Extraordinary provision by the Municipality

Milan, 16 December 2020 – An extraordinary provision has been launched to re-measure on a daily basis, for the year 2020/2021 only, in cases of failure to use the service due to quarantine, the annual contribution paid by families to Milan Catering for the school lunch service. In this way, it will be possible to deduct from the quota assigned on the basis of the ISEE requirements the periods of non-use due to temporary closure of the section due to cases of positivity to Covid-19.

The resolution approved by the Council also confirms that the contribution paid by families who started using the canteen on 28 September, late compared to the start of the school year, will be remeasured, following the same logic, due to the decision of some institutes to postpone the start of the service.

“The commitment of the Municipality and Milano Ristorazione continues to meet the needs of families in this particularly complex period – declares the councilor for Education Laura Galimberti -. An adaptation that involved a significant effort by the Department and Milan Ristorazione offices, but which we consider necessary because we are aware of the many sacrifices that mothers and fathers are facing in recent months".

The municipal administration and Milano Ristorazione have worked intensely to guarantee the safe restart of school meals from the first day of school, agreeing with each institution on personalized solutions suited to the spaces and numbers of each building.

The Municipality, despite the presence of extraordinary costs due to the ongoing health emergency, has also kept unchanged the flat-rate contribution requested from families which only partially covers - around 50% - the actual cost of the Milano Ristorazione service, which provides average over 87 thousand meals a day, for a total of almost 15 million lunches a year.

In recent days, Milano Ristorazione has issued payment slips - the deadline for which has been extended to 31 December - for an amount equal to 75% of the contribution quota assigned based on family income. The balance will be communicated later and will include the balance net of the discounts calculated for non-use of the service, taking into consideration the administrative provisions established by the Municipality.
