Education. The Municipality of Milan joins 'Free nurseries' also for the 2019/2020 educational year

The measure adds to the benefits of the municipal administration to help families with low incomes

Milan, June 26 2019 – Adherence to the free nursery school measure envisaged by the Lombardy Region has also been approved by the Council for the 2019/2020 educational year.

“Nidi gratis is part of the wider set of benefits that the municipal administration puts in place every year through the ISEE bands, which range from free for the lowest incomes, up to 465 euros for residents with incomes above 27 thousand , and the reductions in fees provided for those who have more than one child or a child in foster care – recalls Education Councilor Laura Galimberti –. In 2018, with municipal subsidies alone, we guaranteed free admission to 2.100 children and reduced fees to a further 3.600. Taking the maximum fee for residents in our nurseries as a parameter, the Municipality invests over 2,3 million euros in benefits every month: a figure that would increase significantly if the actual cost of the service were considered".

The 'Free nursery schools' measure provides coverage of nursery school fees (for an amount equal to the income bracket in which the family is included) for residents in the Lombardy Region with an ISEE equal to or less than 20 thousand euros. For the year 2018, the municipality of Milan received approximately 290 thousand euros per month from the regional measure, for approximately 1.590 registered children.
