School buildings. Childhood in via Crescenzago, asbestos abatement work to be completed in September

Milan, August 14 2020 – The asbestos removal works in the nursery school in via Crescenzago will end before the start of the school year. “The company has already finished the work in a large area of the building – explains the councilor for school buildings Paolo Limonta, who carried out an inspection at the beginning of the week -. They assured us that they will complete the reclamation part by September."

It will thus be possible to quickly resume the renovation of the complex, which began in August last year and was suspended due to the discovery of a vinyl floor with traces of asbestos in the glue underneath the existing floor.

Once the layers of glue have been removed from the walkable surface of the school, the previously planned works will resume: the construction of plasterboard walls and the installation of fire doors, the replacement of all covering materials, floors and false ceilings, which do not have certification fire prevention, and the replacement of electrical systems.

In addition to the asbestos, the works necessary to restart teaching activities will be completed by September, while the completion works, which can be carried out when the school is open, will require another 40 days.

“We feel sorry for the parents of the boys and girls who attended the school - concludes the councilor - and who expected the work to be finished within two months of leaving, but once the asbestos has been found there is no other option than removal safely for the good of everyone, the little ones first and foremost."
