Circular economy. The Municipality enters the CE100 program of the Ellen Macarthur foundation

Milan, May 30 2019 – The entry of the Municipality of Milan into the Circular Economy 100 (CE100) platform of the Ellen MacArthur foundation on the topics of Food Policy, Fashion and Design and Resilience was launched this morning.

The international non-profit foundation Ellen macarthur develops several acceleration programs in the fields of the circular economy, including CE100, an innovation platform that allows public and private organizations to develop new opportunities and accelerate their actions in the circular economy and which unites companies, governments, cities , universities, innovators in a single multi-stakeholder platform.

By joining the program, the Municipality of Milan will be able, for example, to participate in workshops and acceleration training on the various themes of the circular economy, will be supported in the development of projects in synergy with other members of the platform, will have access to the network of other members and the database of resources, reports and publications.

“We are proud to become part of such a strong and important network – declares the deputy mayor Anna Scavuzzo – and that Milan has been accepted into the program thanks in particular to three of its specificities: the results achieved to date by the Food Policy policies, in particular for the fight against food waste and the commitment to creating short supply chains; its strength nationally and internationally in the fields of fashion and design and initiatives to raise awareness of the importance of sustainability in these sectors; and the resilience strategies it is carrying out, particularly from an environmental and urban planning point of view".

The Ellen MacArthur foundation has therefore identified a series of international actors considered pioneers on the issues of the circular economy, proposing them to join the program and, among these, has proposed membership to the Municipality of Milan: "The CE100 network is pleased to welcome the city of Milan, whose participation is based on a strong ecosystem of Italian companies working for a circular economy – declares Jocelyn Blériot, Executive Officer and Head of Institutions, Governments and Cities of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation –. We look forward to interacting with the city's various stakeholders as they develop actions that aim to achieve a concept of circular economy, with a focus on themes such as food, fashion, design and resilience."

Other partners of the platform also include the cities of London and Toronto, as well as large private multinational companies such as Intesa Sanpaolo, ENEL, Lucart Group, Hera Group, Fondazione Cariplo, Danone, Google, H&M, Nike, Unilever, Apple, ARUP , BNP, Coca Cola, Du Pont, HP, MacDonald, IKEA, Microsoft, Tetra Pak.
