Here is Allianz Cloud, the new Palalido in Milan

The historic venue for sports and major concerts has reopened. Mayor Giuseppe Sala: “Modern and accessible facility, ideal for hosting important events”. Saturday 15 June, open to the public with guided tours

Milan 14 June 2019 - The Palalido, inaugurated for the first time in 1961, presents itself at its second inauguration in a completely renewed guise. A point of reference for national and international sport, as well as the setting for some of the greatest rock concerts of the past (such as performances by the Rolling Stones, Rockets, The Police, Deep Purple, Europe and Zucchero), the Palalido, now Allianz Cloud, is ready to return to being the fulcrum of sporting life (and not only) in Milan.

“Welcome back Palalido – said the Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala -. Today we are giving back to the citizens of Milan and to all sports lovers a modern facility, universally accessible and easily reachable even by public transport. The Allianz Cloud is the ideal place to host important events in the city, combining attention to the environment with the values of loyalty, team spirit and inclusion that sport transmits to those who practice it and those who love it. For this reason, I sincerely thank Milanosport and all the workers who have worked and collaborated in recent years to give a new life to our Palalido. Finally, thanks to Allianz who believed in the project, linking their name to that of this historic building."

“It has been a long and at times complex journey – declared the Sports Councilor Roberta Guaineri – but now we are really happy: the Milanese and not only will have the opportunity to experience sport in the center of Milan, in a multifunctional facility and at avant-garde. And finally the Milan volleyball team, Power Volley, will have its home here. Furthermore, we have already received many expressions of interest to hold concerts, events and conventions in the structure. I am sure that the Allianz Cloud will become a key space in the sporting and cultural life of our city."

“We are very pleased – underlined Giacomo Campora, CEO of Allianz S.p.A. – to be able to give our name to the historic Palalido returned to the city thanks to this new partnership with the Municipality of Milan and with Milanosport. In Italy we promote numerous initiatives of a sporting, cultural and social nature and the Allianz Cloud, which will also become the home of the Allianz Powervolley Milano men's volleyball team, from today represents a new important initiative for the benefit of the city".

A cloud ready to welcome all sports enthusiasts
The Allianz Cloud is characterized by a fascinating modern and design structure with an elliptical shape, with a covered roof, integrated with photovoltaic and insulating panels, lighting with LED technology and modularity of the heating system. One of the objectives that guided the construction of the arena is in fact energy saving with a view to sustainability and respect for the environment.

The strong point of the system is its inclusive soul. This arena was designed based on universal accessibility criteria and opting for non-discriminating solutions. The Palalido rebirth project started from an analysis of the architectural barriers, and then embarked on a path that led to improving the accessibility, use and comfort of the spaces. In designing the areas, services and equipment, the arena was designed not only for spectators with disabilities but also for athletes with disabilities and other users of the sports facility.

“Inclusivity is an aspect that is particularly dear to me – underlined Chiara Bisconti, President of Milanosport –. The Allianz Cloud must truly become the arena for all Milanese people, without distinction. Milanosport is working to make it a place to live every day, a beautiful building, capable of combining hospitality with aesthetics and making anyone who enters feel at home."

On June 15, Allianz Cloud opens its doors to the public
Tomorrow, Saturday 15 June, guided tours for groups are planned from 10am to 17pm (last entry 16pm) open to anyone who wants to discover the structure. An open day designed to introduce the new arena to the general public.
