State property. Cascina Cuccagna celebrates its tenth anniversary and opens new services
Milan, June 14 2022 - Four days of celebration to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Cascina Cuccagna. The ancient agricultural structure of Milan, the first among those owned by the State property recovered through a tender by the Municipality, sums up ten years of activity by opening a new nursery, a bookshop and a WeMi desk and proposing a series of initiatives from Thursday see you next Sunday.
The program of the celebrations was presented this morning, in the presence of representatives of the Cuccagna Shipyard Consortium Association and the municipal administration, together with the numbers that tell the ten years of the new life of the farm: 5 million in turnover per year, one hundred million euro of GDP generated overall, according to estimates by the Cascina Cuccagna Shipyard Association, as well as dozens of people started to work with various projects, from training courses to insertion courses for prisoners.
Cascina Cuccagna, or "Preganella" when it was the medicinal garden of the Fatebenefratelli Fathers in the 1984th century, was the forerunner of the project with which the municipal administration is recovering the abandoned farmhouses of Milan. Having become the property of the municipal state property in 2005, declared unfit for use and cleared of inhabitants and businesses, following input from inhabitants and neighborhood associations, the farmhouse between Porta Romana and Calvairate was the subject of a concession tender in 2012 and assigned to the Consortium Association Cantiere Cuccagna, which reopened it in 2016 after seven years of restoration, financed through fundraising. After this first example of participatory urban regeneration and restitution of a public good, the Administration continued with other public tenders aimed at businesses, the third sector and associations and with close collaboration between public and private: from XNUMX to today, a dozen farms with agricultural activities, public and local services, another ten structures are waiting for a new future.
Alongside cultural and aggregation activities, organic farming and the short supply chain market, orientation desks and workshops, cuisine and guest quarters, Cascina Cuccagna is launching new services with the tenth anniversary, with a view to the "city 15 minutes away ”, like the new WeMi space of the Municipality of Milan, a point of contact for shared welfare solutions.
