Milan, 1 January 2022 – Rooms with a view of the Duomo, next to the Museum of the Twentieth Century. This is the destination envisaged by the municipal administration for the central portion of the building it owns in via Dogana, on the south side of piazza Duomo, between via Marconi and via Mazzini.
The property, currently partly occupied by the Mondadori bookshop, is the subject of an expression of interest notice open until February 25th: with this, Palazzo Marino is looking for interested parties to redevelop the over 7.260 square meters in front of the Cathedral, arranged from the ground to the fifth floor (plus basement and attic), to turn it into a hotel with related services and shops.

The act follows the council's resolution with which last July 30th the move of the bookshop began to other spaces of the same building on the corner with via Mazzini: these are the historic premises branded Galtrucco from 1923 to 2001 and then Benetton from 2003 to last March. The Mondadori transfer will take place during 2022.

At the same time, the Administration will proceed with the valorization of the central body of the building (which also includes spaces that are already free and others that will be freed from municipal offices) in line with the expansion project of the Museum of the Twentieth Century in the "second Arengario".

For the complex, protected by the Superintendency, Palazzo Marino reserves the right to also evaluate proposals for "any alternative destinations but always respectful of the historical monumental context", we read in the public notice. In consideration of the predictably large investment plan, the concession is for 18 years at an annual rent of no less than 500 euros per square meter for hotel spaces, 1.850 euros for those intended for catering and 2.899,81 euros for services and shops.

"The purpose of the Administration – explains the Councilor for Budget and Heritage, Emmanuel Conte – is to enhance the building from the point of view of profitability and at the same time guarantee a mix of functions suitable for the context of Piazza Duomo. The accommodation destination with high level allows a fair balance between the needs of those who invest, respect for the monumental context and public utility".
