Milan, October 26 2019 - The announcement was made on Friday 25 October, on the final day of the sixth WCCS (World Cities Culture Summit) which took place in recent days in Lisbon, where leaders and the most important cultural experts from 38 different cities, to share their experiences and good practices.

Milan was chosen to host next year's Summit, which will take place from 28 to 30 October 2020, thanks to its multiculturalism, its lively cultural activity and its role as a leading city for all cultural operators. It will be the ninth World Cities Culture Summit, the previous ones were held in Lisbon, San Francisco, Seoul, Moscow, Amsterdam, Istanbul and London.

“Hosting the World Cities Cultural Summit 2020 is for Milan the greatest recognition of a long-term process to allow Milan to become a capital of culture. Thanks to the push given by Expo 2015, Milan has placed culture and creativity at the center of its development – ​​declares the Councilor for Culture Filippo Del Corno –. During the summit, Milan will become the fulcrum of a political debate on the key role that culture can play in addressing the greatest challenges of our time: climate change, social inclusion, creative workforce, relationship between center and periphery in our cities. All these issues will be addressed by city leaders from all over the world together in Milan on 28-30 October 2020. We are really looking forward to hosting them in Milan.”

The Summit is one of the main events of the "World Cities Culture Forum", a collaboration network between the most culturally influential cities in the world, born on the initiative of the Mayor of London. The members of the Forum recognize the impact and importance of culture and creativity and are committed to placing them at the heart of city politics. The World Cities Culture Forum includes 38 cities: Abu Dhabi, Amsterdam, Austin, Barcelona, ​​Bogota, Brussels, Buenos Aires, Chengdu, Dublin, Edinburgh, Guangzhou, Helsinki, Hong Kong, Istanbul, Lagos, Lisbon, London, Los Angeles, Melbourne, Montreal, Moscow, Nanjing, New York, Oslo, Paris, Rome, Sao Paulo, San Francisco, Seoul, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Singapore, Stockholm, Sydney, Taipei, Tokyo, Toronto, Vienna, Warsaw and Zurich.
