Culture. The PAC reopens with a new exhibition dedicated to Luisa Lambri

The “PAC Project Room” series opens with "The Time of Butterflies", a focus on the Kurdish artist Zehra Doğan

Milan, February 16 2021 – The PAC Pavilion of Contemporary Art reopens to the public with a new exhibition, “Luisa Lambri. Self-portrait”, the artist's first large solo show in Italy which presents a vast selection of works created between 1999 and 2017, some of which have never been presented before in Italy.

Focusing primarily on photography, Lambri's work is characterized by a broad spectrum of subjects that revolve around the human condition and its relationship with space, such as the politics of representation, architecture, the history of abstract photography, modernism, feminism, identity and memory.

The installation of his photographs and the exhibition space constitute an integral part of his work: Lambri's works, in fact, are never installed independently of the structure that hosts them, and in the PAC exhibition his photographs become a true extension of the space.

The project "The time of butterflies. Dedicated to Patria, Minerva, Teresa Mirabal", curated by Elettra Stamboulis and created in co-production with the Brescia Musei Foundation, also continues at PAC, which inaugurates the PAC Project Room with a focus on Kurdish artist Zehra Doğan, journalist, visual artist and activist who has brought new attention to art born in prison.

The project began on November 25, 2020 with the publication on the PAC website of the video documentation of a performance by the artist on the occasion of the "International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women", and is now completed with the exhibition of a selection of works created by the artist in prison and a new performance designed for the PAC, the latter on a date to be defined.

Journalist, founder together with others of the first entirely female press agency, visual artist and activist, Zehra Doğan (Diyarbakır, 1989) has inaugurated a new attention to the art that is born behind the confines of bars, thanks also to an artistic process that puts together listening to the other, feminist practice, sharing, use of extemporaneous material and instantaneous gaze.

The title of the project at PAC, “The time of butterflies. Dedicated to Patria, Minerva, Teresa Mirabal” is a tribute to Aida Patria Mercedes, Maria Argentina Minerva, Antonia Maria Teresa Mirabal, the three sisters who fought the dictatorship (1930-1961) of the Dominican Rafael Leónidas Trujillo with the battle name “Las Mariposas” (Butterflies).
