The announcement will soon be made to entrust the management of the space to a person capable of enhancing the destination of classical music as a cultural and social hub

Milan, 1 October 2021 – The guidelines have been approved for the tender for the assignment of the Palazzina Liberty “Dario Fo e Franca Rame” to a concessionaire who will enhance and enhance the structure as a cultural and social hub of classical music, through a project that constantly dialogues with the realities associations in the area and interact with various subjects involved in the field of music at city level. 

Designed in 1908 by the architect Alberto Migliorini inside the ancient Verziere on Corso XXII Marzo, the historic fruit and vegetable market, it was originally intended as a trading center for merchants, then used for many years as a café-restaurant and finally "converted ” between 1974 and 1980 as a laboratory of the theater company of Dario Fo and Franca Rame: a unique and unforgettable experience of “participatory theatre” which belongs to the historical memory of the city of Milan, which is why the building was named after them in 2017. 

Since 1991 the building has been the headquarters of the Civic Wind Orchestra of Milan and in 1994 it was also chosen as the headquarters of the Milano Classica Chamber Orchestra, becoming in the last five years a true "House of Music" and reaching the the considerable number of 150 shows per year was pre-Covid.  

Now the Municipality has decided to entrust the management of the building to a third party, identified on the basis of a public notice, through an agreement that will last twenty years, in order to allow the concessionaire the sustainability of the project as a whole. The proposal will in fact have to strengthen the now consolidated vocation of the Palazzina with a project that transforms it into a hub for the offer of quality music at affordable prices by strengthening relationships with the social fabric and local associations; but also include the enhancement of the property through the implementation of maintenance works and completion of the adaptation to safety regulations for a minimum total of 1,2 million euros. The tender will also include the possible payment of an annual fee, linked to the duration of the works.
