Milan, October 21 2019 - Milan is preparing to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the death of Alda Merini, which occurred on 1 November 2009, with a series of initiatives in various places in the city, in order to highlight the eclectic and disruptive personality of the Milanese poet.

Promoted and coordinated by the Municipality of Milan | Culture and the Alda Merini Association, the program is created in collaboration with the Casa delle Artiste Association, the Boschi-Di Stefano House Museum and the Municipality of Brunate.

The initiatives will continue until November 18th, but the program already started last October 2nd with the inauguration of the Alda Merini and Alberto Casiraghy ​​exhibition. Story of a friendship, conceived and edited by Andrea Tomasetig and dedicated to the intense intellectual and human partnership between Alda Merini and the typographer-poet-artist-publisher Alberto Casiraghy.

The most highly symbolic initiative of the program is the naming ceremony by the Councilor for Culture Filippo Del Corno, on November 6th at 10.30 am, of the Bridge over the Naviglio Grande near his home in Ripa di Porta Ticinese on the corner of Via Corsico. 

On 28 and 29 October, in the Napoleonic Hall of the University, the conference entitled "I am a black city/and a night swallow" will take place. Alda Merini, poet of Milan", the first dedicated to her with reports by authoritative scholars and round tables, promoted by the University and the Alda Merini Association with the contribution of the Lombardy Region.

On the anniversary of her death, November 1st, the Casa delle Arti-Spazio Alda Merini organizes a series of initiatives: the inauguration of Alda: traits and portraits, collective exhibition of pictorial and sculptural works dedicated to Alda Merini, a reading and, finally, a 'poetic torchlight procession' to the Ponte sul Naviglio, a symbolic place of his existence and his poetry.

On November 5, in the Nina Vinchi cloister of the Piccolo Teatro in via Rovello, the Merini Marathon will be held, organized by the Alda Merini Association in collaboration with the Piccolo Teatro; and the inauguration of the exhibition Genius and poetry. Alda Merini in the images of Giuliano Grittini, the photographer friend who captured her soul in many portrait photos.

The celebrations of the tenth anniversary of Alda Merini will end in the Church of San Marco on 18 November with a new staging of her Poem of the Cross, a sacred work for solo voice, choir and orchestra, directed by Beppe Menegatti and scenography by Henry Timi, organized by the Association Alda Merini with the patronage of the Archdiocese of Milan. Alongside Giovanni Nuti, performer and composer of the music, Carla Fracci, in the role of Maria, will act and dance with stars from the Teatro alla Scala and young dancers in a benefit evening in favor of AIM, the Italian Myasthenia Association-Amici del Besta and LISM, Italian Multiple Sclerosis League.

Today at Palazzo Marino, during the press conference to present the initiatives for the tenth anniversary of Alda Merini, the Mayor of the Municipality of Brunate awarded Carla Fracci the Alda Merini Brunate Award 2019 - "My life has been more beautiful than poetry", and announced the naming ceremony of the Como-Brunate Path after Alda Merini, scheduled for November 3rd.
