Culture. An urban path inside the Lambro Park is named after Walter Bonatti

Milan, June 20 2022 – A path inside the Lambro Park, formerly the 'urban path' of the CAI Milan, which winds up the hill near via Feltre, was named after Walter Bonatti, a legendary figure of international mountaineering, today. 143 meters high, the hill is the second 'peak' of the city after Monte Stella (185 meters high). From its summit you can see the peaks of Grigne and Resegone, rock climbing gyms of the young Bonatti, a Falck worker from Sesto San Giovanni. Lombard by birth, Bonatti was also Milanese by adoption and, when he abandoned the activity of extreme mountaineering, he dedicated himself with great professionalism to exploratory reportage in the most extreme lands in the world. Great appreciation for this tribute was expressed by the most famous mountaineer ever, Reinhold Messner, the man who was the first in the world to climb all the eight thousand peaks on Earth and is the protagonist of the documentary film "Fratelli si becoming" by Alessandro Filippini and Fredo Valla, dedicated to Bonatti. Messner received a civic recognition on parchment from the Municipality of Milan, which reads: "To Reinhold Messner for his legendary mountaineering exploits, for his many modern explorations, for his cultural commitment to the promotion of the mountains together with his tireless dedication to safeguarding of the natural Alpine environment”.
