Culture. The talents of women, 2020 city cultural schedule

Milan, January 20 2020 - Starting from 2014, the Municipality of Milan|Culture has promoted thematic cultural programming spread across the city, culminating in 2015 with Expo in the city and continuing with American Autumn, Back to the Future, Italian Twentieth Century and, last year, Milan Leonardo500. During 2020 the city's cultural program will be dedicated to the talents of women, from the exemplary figures of the past to the many witnesses of today, protagonists in the world of art, culture, entrepreneurship, politics, sport and science.

As always, the approach to the construction of the schedule is characterized by a multidisciplinary vocation and a great inclusiveness towards what emerges from the city's cultural fabric, welcoming initiatives proposed by the municipalities and the territory, in order to ensure the greatest diffusion of the initiatives and the widest possible involvement of the community.

An ad hoc scientific committee - composed of Daria Colombo, Mayor's Delegate for Equal Opportunities, Diana De Marchi, President of the Equal Opportunities Council Commission, and expert and influential women in various fields - has guaranteed, and will guarantee for the entire course of the year, the coherence of the proposals included in the program (exhibitions, shows, concerts, conferences, meetings, workshops and more) with the objectives of the schedule and with the charter of values, approved by the committee itself and shared with all the entities participating in The talents of women. The possibility of including initiatives in the calendar will remain open throughout 2020.

In addition to councilor Del Corno, all the councilors of the Municipality of Milan have been permanently invited to the meetings of the Scientific Committee: Anna Scavuzzo (deputy mayor), Cristina Tajani (councilor for Labor Policies, Productive Activities, Commerce and Human Resources), Roberta Guainieri ( Councilor for Tourism, Sport and Quality of Life), Roberta Cocco (Councillor for Digital Transformation and Civic Services) and Laura Galimberti (Councillor for Education and Instruction). The sensitivity towards the topic, however typical of the whole activity of the Administration, has in fact been expressed in various projects that are headed by different departments.

“The talents of women aims to highlight how - in the past and in the present, and often in unfavorable conditions - women have been and are protagonists in the various disciplines of the creative path and bearers of significant social demands for change. Spreading knowledge on this topic produces a new level of awareness on the role of female figures in social life, and concretely helps to pursue that principle of fairness and equal opportunities which, according to the dictates of our Constitution, must be able to materialize in everyday life", states the Culture councilor Filippo Del Corno.

The Department of Culture - which coordinates the implementation of the general program, takes care of the communication and promotion of the calendar - has planned a series of artistic and cultural initiatives, some of which are included in the 2020 exhibition program. Even the major Milanese cultural institutions, the Teatro alla Scala and the Piccolo Teatro, become part of the program by bringing to the stage, respectively, La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi in the celebrated staging designed by Liliana Cavani, and the show/fable by Emma Dante which with Misericordia he tells the story of the greatness and loneliness of women in his powerful and unmistakable language.

There are many artistic and cultural institutions in the city that have joined I talents of women, articulating their 2020 programming in such a way as to pay homage to female creativity: Trisha Baga will in fact be the protagonist of an exhibition at the Pirelli HangarBicocca, while Marinella Senatore will be to the Stelline Foundation; in 2020 the Diocesan Museum dedicates two exhibition projects to women artists in different fields and times: Artemisia Gentileschi and Margherita Lazzati, photographer in Opera prison; Marina Abramovic's "Ecstasies" will be told at the Ambrosiana Library thanks to a series of videos, and Abramovic will also be the protagonist of her school of performing art at the Feltrinelli Foundation with a special course during the Milan Artweek 2020.

Not only the institutions, but all the city's cultural operators are involved in the planning of initiatives linked to the theme of the schedule, with different and multidisciplinary languages: therefore not only art, but also theatre, music and performance.
