Milan, August 11 2022 – Over 450 books, films and multimedia documents on the topic of disability will be available to all users of the collective library catalog of the National Library Service - Polo Città di Milano (opac.sbn.it).

In fact, an agreement will soon be signed between the Municipality of Milan - Library Area and the LEDHA association (League for the rights of people with disabilities), by virtue of which the association's media library will be made available on the SBN online catalogue. collects works by authors capable of representing, with different literary and cinematographic approaches, the world of disabilities. This will allow us to expand the scope of the content offering to the city of Milan and enhance the services offered to users also according to a principle of "proximity" to the places where citizens live.

LEDHA is a social promotion association (APS), which works for the protection of the rights of disabled people, offering information, free consultancy and legal assistance and acting as an interlocutor with Lombardy institutions. Aware of how cinema and narrative are capable of building the imagination and representation of the world and society, over the years it has collected a heritage which is divided into two parts: the section films and videos (over 150), made up of historical material and very often unobtainable on any medium; and the section books, consisting mainly of works of fiction capable of offering an original and significant representation of disability.

The agreement, which will regulate the technical and organizational aspects of the LEDHA Media Library's membership of the SBN "City of Milan" hub, does not provide for expenditure burdens for the Municipal Administration and will last five years, with the possibility of renewal for another five. Among the commitments that the association will have to undertake is that of adapting the organization of the library and its opening hours in order to facilitate public access.
