Culture. At GAM on display “Images of Italy. Contemporary photography from the Deutsche Bank collection”

Milan, September 27 2019 – Until 27 October 2019 the GAM | Modern Art Gallery of Milan hosts “Images of Italy. Contemporary photography from the Deutsche Bank collection", the first exhibition in Italy that presents a selection of photographic works from the Deutsche Bank collection, one of the main corporate collections of contemporary art worldwide.

It is a journey through the images of Italy immortalized by the lens of some of the most famous Italian and German photographers, which winds through the Ballroom, Room 29 and the Parnassus Room of the GAM. Inside the exhibition photographs taken from the XNUMXs to the present day by Luigi Ghirri, Gabriele Basilico, Vincenzo Castella, Ketty La Rocca, ArminLinke, CandidaHöfer, Günther Förge Heidi Specker, just to name a few.

“Images of Italy. Contemporary photography from the Deutsche Bank collection" is organized and curated by Deutsche Bank and the Modern Art Gallery of Milan and has the patronage of the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Milan, and the Goethe-institut Mailand. Co-curators of the exhibition are Paola Zatti, Conservator in charge of GAM, together with Britta Faerber and Christina Maerz, from the Art, culture & sports division of Deutsche Bank.

In the first of the three sections of the exhibition the photographers express their particular vision of Italy, both from an urban, social and cultural point of view, while the second part is dedicated to photographers who work with staging, editing and digital technology. The last section is dedicated to interiors and exteriors, but also to how the theme of Italy's cultural heritage is addressed.

Photographers approach Italian history and culture very differently, dedicating their works to mass tourism and the legacy of the modern, or reflecting the classic beauty of architecture and landscape in their images. At the center of attention, in addition to the formal experiment, there is always an aesthetic or social vision of the country.

“Images of Italy. Contemporary photography from the Deutsche Bank collection” also offers visitors to the exhibition an exclusive workshop curated by the artist Luca Vitone, who will guide the public to discover the general theme of the itinerary filtered from his personal point of view, with exercises in reading the works suggested by his method.

Thanks to the collaboration with Corsiarte, the exhibition will also offer students from Milanese schools a series of guided tours specifically planned with the teaching management of the participating institutes and the possibility for groups of teachers to take part in a training course with Chiara Gatti, art historian, independent curator and teacher. The aim of the visits is to provide students with the right tools to approach contemporary art in an informed way, thanks to an educational program specifically designed by the curators of the exhibition.

An exhibition that combines GAM's interest in the contemporary with that of Deutsche Bank which has collected, since the end of the Seventies, works from the various countries of the world in which it operates. Since the birth of the Deutsche Bank Ccollection, contemporary photography has occupied a leading role and today the works of "Images of Italy" are exhibited in the three Italian offices of the Group: the headquarters in Milan Bicocca, the second Milanese office in via Turati and that of Piazza SS. Apostles in Rome.

Entrance included in the museum ticket.
