The solidarity network is expanding: a new storage warehouse, the inclusion of fresh products in shopping and the launch of the crowdfunding campaign "Milan for Milan: add a meal to the table"

Milan, 10 April 2020 – More than 15 thousand people reached through 4.450 purchases, for a total of over 30 tons of food per week. These are the results of the first month of activity of the temporary hubs that the Municipality of Milan, through the synergy between the Social and Housing Policies Directorate and the Food Policy of Milan, has set up and manages, together with the Italian Red Cross - Milan Committee, Civil Protection of Milan, QuBì Program - The recipe against child poverty, Milan Community Foundation, Lombardy Food Bank, Caritas Ambrosiana, Milano Ristorazione, Sogemi and AMAT, to deliver weekly shopping door to door to the most vulnerable families.

“Day by day the solidarity of bodies, associations and companies that offer to contribute to open projects to help citizens grows – comments the Deputy Mayor with responsibility for Food policy Anna Scavuzzo -. Some making their means and spaces available, some their staff and volunteers, some products and some monetary donations, some time, knowledge and ability to spread the initiatives as much as possible. Everything contributes to making the Food Aid Device based on the hubs increasingly widespread to reach old and new families in difficulty. Together we will emerge stronger than before with the awareness that this difficult period is giving us the opportunity to consolidate a cohesive and lasting collaboration network."

Many innovations have been launched this week, the fourth since its launch, starting from the Segrate logistics hub for the storage and distribution of food goods made available by the Italian Red Cross - Milan Committee from 6 April, from which over 30 tons of food per week. About fifteen volunteers and operators involved including logisticians, forklift drivers and field workers to manage all the necessary logistics.

And from this week, thanks to the collaboration between Sogemi and AGO, Association of fruit and vegetable wholesalers, promoters of this initiative, and with the support of ACMO Association of fruit and vegetable market traders and the Producers Consortium, FOODY Milan agri-food market has started to integrate the spending for a thousand families (with the aim of reaching almost 4 thousand) with a weekly kit of 4 apples, 4 oranges, 5 potatoes, 1 cabbage and 2 onions (quantities doubled in the case of large families).

The eighth hub of the circuit has also started, in the Crescenzago area, which will again be managed thanks to municipal employees, operators and volunteers from the 23 city QuBì Networks, who from today will have extra help: Milano Città Stato, in collaboration with the Community Foundation Milan, the Municipality of Milan and the QuBi Program are launching the fundraiser "Milan for Milan: add a meal to the table" on Intesa Sanpaolo's For Funding web platform (www.forfunding.it), through which citizens can donate and support the hubs guaranteeing the purchase of food to be distributed to people in difficulty. Alongside the system of eight hubs and the 400 families served through the extraordinary openings of the three Caritas Ambrosiana Solidarity Emporiums in the areas of Niguarda, Barona and Lambrate, in the coming weeks, thanks to the contribution of Intesa Sanpaolo, partner of QuBì, there will also be the responses given by some additional centers active in the city have been strengthened, such as Solidando: the Social market managed by the Istituto Beata vergine addolorata - IBVA - in collaboration with the Lombardy Food Bank will double its opening hours and welcome 250 families with small children who will be able to go to do a free shopping in via Santa Croce 15.

To date, among the companies that have supported the hubs with donations in money or products, there are Allianz, Snam, NaturaSì, Novamont, Coop Lombardia, Carrefour Italia, Lidl, Galbani, Parmalat, Starhotel, Fondazione Veronesi, Save the children. Furthermore, approximately 50 thousand doves and Easter eggs arrived from Maina, Bauli, Bindi, Galbusera, Lindt, Luigi Zaini, Giveusgood, Romanengo, Lions District 108 IB4 - La grande Milano and 1.000 personal care products (shampoo, shower gel and soaps) from Douglas perfumeries.
