Rabaiotti: "We are implementing all possible measures, trying above all to intercept a new demand, made up of people who are suffering a collapse in income due to the emergency"

Milan, 3 April 2020 - Starting next week it will be possible to submit an application to the Municipality to obtain a voucher useful for food expenses, as decided with last Sunday's Prime Ministerial Decree which assigns a total contribution of approximately 7 million and 279 thousand euros to the city of Milan. The form for submitting requests, with a few simple questions on personal data and confirmation of access requirements, will be found online on the website of the Municipality of Milan. There will also be an assistance service available by calling 020202.

“We moved as quickly as possible - explains the councilor for social and housing policies Gabriele Rabaiotti - to be able to provide answers to those who are currently in serious difficulty. As an Administration we are implementing all possible measures, also making an effort to intercept a new demand, which we do not know, but which unfortunately we know is growing at the moment. A question that adds to the one already previously known to our services, which we want to bring to light because no one should feel alone in this emergency. These are measures with which indicatively, from the first estimates made, we think we will reach 50-60 thousand people".

The Administration decided to divide the resources into three lines of action: the first is that of strengthening the seven hubs that have been active in the city for about a month, which already today reach at least 8 thousand people. 700 thousand euros will be allocated to the hubs for the purchase of food goods to be distributed to those in need.

A second part of the extraordinary funds will then be used to recognize a contribution to the almost 1.200 families who, despite having already been admitted to the 2019 income support rankings, have not yet received the expected funding. Families with up to a maximum of three members will be given a voucher of 150 euros per month for two months, which will reach 350 euros (always monthly for two months) if there are more than three members.

Finally, through the third line of intervention, which will be able to count on an amount of over 5 million 848 thousand euros, shopping vouchers will be provided to citizens who find themselves in serious difficulty due to the ongoing emergency. The objective is to support families residing in Milan, single-income or without income, who live in rent or pay the mortgage for their first home, with availability in their current account not exceeding 5 thousand euros as of 31 March 2020 and who have an income family total of less than 20 thousand euros (the reference is to 2018 income) or less than 40 thousand euros if they lost their job due to the emergency after 1 February 2020.

They are the ones who will be able to apply starting from the beginning of next week. Among the requests received, the presence of minor or elderly children aged 65 or over in the family unit will constitute priority criteria; being self-employed with a precarious income; not being beneficiaries of citizenship income or other income support contributions provided by the Municipality of Milan; not having full ownership of other properties.

Also in this case, the amounts of the vouchers will be 150 euros for 2 months for a family of up to three members and 350 euros per month for 2 months for families with more than three members.
