Coronavirus. Local police, from Monday 6 April around 180 more people in the area: 64 new officers arriving

Milan, 4 April 2020 – “In thanking the agents and officers of the local police of Milan for the great work they are carrying out at the service of the citizens, we reiterate that the dynamic device we have put in place adapts every week to the different needs that the city presents. The good weather must not induce people to go out more, so we will monitor even more: around 180 more agents will be deployed in the area, of which 64 are new recruits, who have just completed the training period and who are ready to support more experienced colleagues”, declares the Commander of the local Police Marco Ciacci.

To carry out the patrols, from Monday there will therefore be around 640 officers in the area (over 300 patrols). Another 650 people manage services from the office such as the operations centre, judicial police operations, control of quarantines and support for patrols, and around 700 agents in smart working who guarantee the continuation of all services to citizens.

From the beginning of the emergency to today - with a service that has been gradually remodulated according to the new provisions contained in the Prime Ministerial Decrees and in the ordinances - 14.750 checks have been carried out by the local police on commercial establishments with 105 contested violations, 337 checks on commercial illegal activity and 9 seizures, over 1.000 checks of compliance with the quarantine or isolation obligation as indicated by Ats and hundreds of people checked on the road.

In agreement with the Prefecture of Milan, the activities of the local police relating to the Coronavirus emergency concern the verification of compliance with the provisions with particular attention to places of aggregation, commercial activities and open public establishments, compliance with closures and prohibitions, parks and gardens , compliance with quarantines and isolations.

The Council also yesterday approved the guidelines for the stipulation of the collaboration agreement "Smart 2020 - Covid 19 Emergency", between the Lombardy Region and the Municipality of Milan, for the implementation of integrated urban safety interventions. The part of the fund partially supporting the expenses incurred for local police personnel, which will be allocated to the city of Milan - presumably around 130 thousand euros - will be used to strengthen evening, night and weekend services, aimed, as expected, to monitor compliance with the ordinances. All activities covered by the agreement must be completed no later than 31 October 2020; the contribution due to each Municipality will be paid by 31 December 2020.
