Coronavirus. For the elderly in public housing, incoming SMS and phone calls for support and orientation to the Municipality's services

Rabaiotti: “We are building a support network so that no one is left alone in facing the emergency”

Milan, March 19 2020 - The Municipality of Milan continues to develop support interventions for the most vulnerable citizens, in particular the elderly.
For the tenants of public housing owned by the municipality, together with the MM manager, the Administration has organized a dedicated service: 5.290 text messages are currently being sent to families made up of over 65s to remind them of the basic rules of conduct to be adopted in this period and the telephone numbers useful in emergencies.

In detail:

  • 020202 activated by the Municipality for the request for support in shopping, buying medicines and for free transport in the event of medical visits that cannot be postponed. The people in charge respond from Monday to Saturday, from 8am to 20pm;
  • 0285782797, made available by ATS Metro, which you can call from Monday to Friday (from 9am to 16pm) to receive support and listening from specialized operators and psychologists.

Furthermore, a group of operators will be appointed to directly call the most fragile elderly people, those over 75 with disabilities, as a first contact of presence and proximity, and to help them find their way among the services offered by the Municipality in case of particular need.

“The elderly in our public housing are many and often alone - recalls the councilor for social and housing policies Gabriele Rabaiotti -. With MM we are trying to build a network of both practical and psychological support as widespread as possible, because we want no one to feel abandoned. At this moment we would also like to have ALER and the Lombardy Region at our side".
