Coronavirus. Milan helps, the telephone route dedicated to the over 65s is underway

The 02.02.02 switchboard is starting today to activate a dedicated path to inform citizens most at risk in the event of contagion about the solidarity initiatives implemented in the city

Milan, March 12 2020 - "Milan helps" is active from today, a program of the contact center of the Municipality of Milan dedicated to the elderly and frail people most at risk in the event of contagion from Coronavirus.
By calling 02.02.02, from 8am to 20pm from Monday to Saturday, you can obtain information on the offers that the city has put in place to deal with the emergency due to the spread of Covid-19.

“In this difficult moment for Milan - declares the councilor for social and housing policies Gabriele Rabaiotti - we have asked everyone to do their part: citizens to stay at home to avoid the spread of contagion and companies and private individuals to help us put together a series of initiatives to support the most vulnerable people. The city has shown, as always, great generosity and today we are able to start with the first initiatives, with the aim of implementing them over time".

The service will be structured as follows, as part of the general activity of the Civil Protection of the Municipality of Milan: the switchboard operators, adequately trained in these hours, will represent a first filter for fundamental information on private social and corporate initiatives, especially in the pharmaceutical sector, large-scale retail trade and home delivery of meals. If the operator finds the need for more competent listening, he will open a ticket which will be managed in the back office by a working group, coordinated by the Department of Social and Housing Policies, with an operational base in the Civil Protection headquarters in via Drago. Each operator will manage the requests connected to the territory of a Municipality in order to guarantee a response to the need that is as precise as possible, which also includes proximity services, the work of local social services, the WeMi network and the activity of social custodians. which will be strengthened with the addition of new staff dedicated to this specific task.

Information on the offer available in the city will be gradually implemented: in fact, there are various opportunities made available by private individuals who have already arrived at the email address milanoaiuta@comune.milano.it, established to collect company initiatives and encourage their dissemination. Among these, that of the Taxiblu and Autoradiotaxi 8585 cooperatives which will provide 40 daily trips to accompany elderly people to essential appointments free of charge. Also active, thanks to the mediation of Energie sociali Jesurum, is the free delivery of medicines with the collection of the relevant prescriptions by Lloyds Pharmacy: the switchboard operators will be able to indicate the number of the pharmacy closest to the home, so that the service can be activated with a simple call. A toll-free number is also active through the Ministry of Health which guarantees a similar Federfarma service.

Large-scale distribution then made itself available for the delivery of shopping: Coop, Conad, Lidl, MD offer home shopping for the over 65s by relying on the Supermercato24 circuit, Amazon Prime now offers delivery with a minimum spend of 15 euros . Carrefour also offers delivery as does Esselunga which is also strengthening the Locker system (refrigerated containers scattered around the city) for the delivery of shopping near the home. The Soldo start-up has decided to donate 500 expenses worth 50 euros to as many frail elderly people selected by the Municipality which is also working on a collaboration with large-scale distribution to activate parallel channels for the delivery of food at home for the most vulnerable. weak. To avoid forcing older people to leave their homes, Amplifon has made available, through an agreement with the Red Cross, free home delivery of batteries for their hearing aid products.

There are also many individual citizens who have written to make themselves available as volunteers and help those who need it most. They will immediately be asked to become "condominium volunteers", first of all helping their neighbors by making themselves available to go shopping for the people in difficulty who live in their building, as already happens in various municipalities.

“It is precisely in the most complex moments - declares the councilor with responsibility for Volunteering Laura Galimberti - that the Milanese community demonstrates all its generosity. There are many citizens who have made themselves available to lend a hand and we are working to systematize all this positive energy and to implement concrete initiatives to support the services already active".

To apply as a volunteer you can write to the address per.voluntariato@comune.milano.it

Finally, the Administration will send a communication to the tenants of the public housing managed by MM to inform them of the new active service and to reiterate the instructions to follow to avoid contagion.

On the homeless front, however, the Municipality will guarantee the opening of active centers under the cold plan even during the day, to ensure that even those without a home can comply with the provisions of the Prime Ministerial Decrees and limit socializing. Thanks to the contribution of Emergency, health screening (with measurement of temperature and respiratory functions) of guests will be guaranteed in the facilities, in order to guarantee everyone's health and safety.
