Tajani: "An attention that we want to reserve precisely for those workers who are often poorly protected both from a contractual and social point of view"

Milan, 14 April 2020 – Protect the health of the riders who are busy making deliveries every day and at the same time guarantee the safety of restaurateurs and Milanese people who order ready-to-eat meals. This is the objective of the initiative promoted by the Municipality of Milan and implemented by the Department of Labor Policies, Productive Activities and Commerce which starts today, Tuesday 14 April, and then continues in the following days, at the "Work Desk" in Viale Gabriele d'Annunzio 15 (entrance from via Arena, driveway), from 9am to 30pm, will distribute the first 17 safety kits (1.000 masks and 5 pairs of gloves) free of charge to all riders called in batches for collection.

To avoid any gatherings and proceed with an orderly distribution, the operation is organized in alphabetical order with daily quantities defined in agreement with the main food delivery companies operating in the city. This will allow a fair distribution of riders on the scheduled distribution days: starting today with riders with surnames ranging from the letter A to the letter E and continuing, with the same system, F÷J on Wednesday 15th, and K÷Z in the following days until reaching all riders estimated at over 3.000 units, regardless of the company they work for.

“With this initiative – explains the councilor for Labor Policies, Productive Activities and Commerce, Cristina Tajani – we want to protect both the health of the riders who, with their work, guarantee the continuity of the food delivery service, but also that of the citizens and restaurateurs. An attention - continues the councilor - that we want to reserve precisely for those workers who are poorly protected from a contractual point of view, who cannot also pay a greater health risk than other categories of workers active despite the emergency".

In the kits made available by the Administration, in addition to useful aids for their own personal safety and that of others, riders will also find a useful information leaflet in Italian, English, Spanish and French with the main indications for dealing with the CoViD emergency. 19: how to correctly use personal protective equipment, invitations to avoid gatherings while waiting both at pick-up restaurants and in meeting places, respecting minimum distances with operators and end customers, not touching your nose and mouth.

The distribution of kits to riders is part of the broader action prepared by the Administration to provide personal safety equipment to all those categories of workers, such as traders, taxi drivers, social health workers, counter clerks who carry out their work daily without interruption during the emergency. The distribution of the kits will take place thanks to the voluntary contribution of the department's employees while the information flyer was created by the Center for the culture of prevention in the workplace and living places.
