Coronavirus. Contributions for rent, the online call for those in difficulty due to the emergency

Rabaiotti: “A first measure for those who struggle to pay, for those who are suffering the hardest blows, for those who have lost a family member”

Milan, 30 April 2020 - A contribution for the payment of rent on the free market for those who are in difficulty due to the Coronavirus emergency. It is online on the Municipality website at link
the public notice to request the contribution, which the Administration will provide through MilanoAbitare, the social agency for affiliated rentals: a maximum of 1.500 euros one-off per family until the available resources are exhausted, which currently amount to around 3 million euros (2,456 million already tied up plus 548 thousand additional euros), but which may be increased on the basis of any further financing.

“With this first measure - intervenes the councilor for social and housing policies Gabriele Rabaiotti - we want to help the families who the emergency has put most in crisis, who have had to suffer the loss of a loved one, or their hospitalization, who they were no longer able to work and therefore suffered a vertical collapse in their income. The intention is also to avoid the occurrence of eviction proceedings due to non-payment by owners, with an effort to pay attention to categories of people potentially impoverished due to the emergency and traditionally excluded from the radar of public welfare. Concrete help to alleviate the burden of a situation in which we believe several fellow citizens find themselves."

Residents in the Municipality of Milan who are not owners of any home within the territory of Lombardy will be able to submit a request, with an ISEE certificate of up to 26 thousand euros which must be attached to the application or, in case of temporary impossibility, presented by 30 June. You must also have held a rental contract for at least one year (as of March 30, 2020) and not be subject to release procedures.

In addition to the basic requirements valid for access, conditions particularly linked to the emergency will be considered as preferential criteria: the cessation, reduction or absence of work activity starting from 1 February this year; hospitalization for Covid-19 symptoms or the death of a family member from 1 February; the presence of people with disabilities greater than 66% within the nucleus. Among the criteria relating to the working condition that will weigh in the compilation of the ranking is being self-employed, precarious, on a fixed-term contract and looking for work. Single-parent families and large single-income families are also valued, with attention to singles.

The notice is also found on the agency's website www.milanoabitare.org: it will be possible to submit the application, for the first time only online, until 12pm on May 20th. Afterwards, once the ranking has been compiled, the owners will be contacted by MilanoAbitare via the email address or telephone number indicated in the application. The contribution, in fact, will be paid directly to the owner of the accommodation.
