Coronavirus. Social housing, distribution of 300 thousand masks starts today

Milan, 15 April 2020 - The distribution of masks began today in the popular neighborhoods of the city. These are 300 thousand "pieces" that the Municipality received as a donation from the Chinese community, and which in turn decided to make available to its inhabitants most in difficulty, estimating to reach around 60 thousand families among residents in ALER public housing and in the municipal ones managed by MM.

“With this first donation made to the Municipality we decided to start from the families of public housing - says the councilor for social and housing policies Gabriele Rabaiotti -. We thank all those who worked to make this objective achievable, and in particular the volunteer groups who are helping us in all these important citizen care operations. To prepare for the progressive reopening of Milan, we hope that the Region will soon provide us with a sufficient number of masks to be able to distribute them to all the families in the city".

“There are many men and women, volunteers and employees, of the municipal civil protection and the local police who are working daily to guarantee assistance to citizens - comments the deputy mayor and councilor for security Anna Scavuzzo -. Our gratitude goes to them for the commitment and consistency with which they work for the city."

The distribution is coordinated by the Municipality of Milan and involves over 100 people, including Civil Protection operators (who in recent days, with its employees and volunteers, also bagged them), local police patrols and around sixty related volunteers. to three different organizations, ARCI Milano, Emergency and Energiesociali Jesurum. To facilitate operations, each organization was entrusted with three different municipalities and, within them, the various popular neighborhoods in which to make deliveries.

The volunteers, in turn equipped with all the safety devices, will be those who will "physically" go inside the buildings, along the stairs of the ERP houses, and will ring the bell to deliver the envelopes. The masks are in fact distributed door to door in different formats: one containing three masks for families of up to two people, one with five masks for families of up to five members and the third with ten masks for larger families.

Given the large number of accommodations to be reached, the operation will take a few days to complete.
