Coronavirus. Municipal housing for citizens in quarantine and extension of payments for public housing

Milan, March 16 2020 – Vacant accommodation owned by the municipality and not intended for public housing may be temporarily used to accommodate citizens who, not having a suitable apartment at their disposal, need isolation for the time necessary to guarantee the protection of their own and others' health.

Municipal properties or parts of them, granted to third parties and not used, may also be used, in agreement with the organizations that currently manage them.

Furthermore, the deadline for payment of fees and expenses for public housing in the Municipality is postponed to September 30th, with the possibility of installment payments which may take into account the economic situations of families, in analogy with provisions already issued by the Administration.

These are the points contained in the Ordinance signed today by Mayor Giuseppe Sala.

The accommodation that will be made available does not fall within the Public Housing Services (SAP), but within the enhancement projects, including those entrusted to the management of third-party operators, already assigned to the housing emergency as a public support measure for families.
The terms of duration of the contractual relationships with the managing bodies will be extended for the time deemed appropriate.

In the meantime, to contain the spread of the Coronavirus and limit outings as much as possible, as requested of all citizens, the branches of the MM Casa offices will be closed until March 25th. The services for the tenants of the municipal housing managed by MM will not be suspended, but reorganised: the appointments already made with the local offices will not take place at the counter, but will be managed by telephone by the MM operators.

At the agreed appointment time, the tenant will be contacted at the telephone number he left and, having all the necessary documents at hand, he will be able to handle the case remotely. To sign and integrate any documents, please make a new appointment, this time at the counter, when the emergency ends. No operator is authorized to ask for bank details or money either by telephone or even at home. It is always possible to make new telephone appointments, or make reports, by contacting the toll-free number 800.013.191.
