Town Council. Rationalization of governance and cost containment, changes to the statute of the Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026 approved

Milan, 5 December 2022 - The City Council approved the changes to the statute of the Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation, proposed to the members by the CEO Andrea Varnier.  With a view to rationalizing the governance mechanisms of the Foundation and containing the related burdens, a Management Committee will not be established within the Board of Directors, but all the powers of ordinary and extraordinary administration of the entity not expressly to the Board of Directors will be attributed to the figure of the CEO.  The number of members of the Board of Directors will decrease from 26 to 14: seven directors will be appointed in agreement by the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) and the Italian Paralympic Committee (CIP), one of whom will act as president; six will be appointed by agreement by the Lombardy Region, the Veneto Region, the autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano, the Municipality of Milan and the Municipality of Cortina d'Ampezzo and one, with the functions of Chief Executive Officer, already appointed by decree of the President of Cabinet.  Among the changes to the statute, there is also the periodic update on the progress of the activities, on a six-monthly basis, by the President and the CEO of the Foundation towards the Minister for sport and youth, the Mayors, the Presidents and of the Governors of the Foundation's member bodies. The obligation will also be introduced for each member of the board of directors to draw up, for the entire duration of their mandate, reports with which to inform and update the member body of the foundation that appointed them.
