Town Council. Municipality of Milan does not support the removal of the files, the chamber ratifies the decision

Milan, January 30 2023 - The Municipality of Milan does not adhere to the automatic cancellation of tax bills provided for in the State Budget Law for the financial year 2023. The City Council decided this in today's session.

“The amnesty measures similar to those introduced” by the last budget law, we read in the resolution proposed by the Council and approved by the Chamber, “disincentivize virtuous behavior and conflict with the principle of fairness towards citizens, the vast majority of whom fulfills its contribution obligations to support public spending, both in terms of general taxation and from the point of view of non-tax revenues".

Adherence to the measure would have concerned approximately 1,4 million fines for fines to the highway code and approximately 160 thousand fines for other revenues, such as IMU and waste tax, entrusted by the Municipality to the Revenue-Collection Agency until 2012. From that date in fact the institution manages the collection itself.

Therefore, interest and penalties due in bills of up to one thousand euros for debts to the Municipality of Milan are not automatically cancelled. Those who have such insolvencies, both for local taxes such as Imu and Tari and for penalties to the Highway Code, will still be able to have the same benefits of the write-off, in terms of reduction of the amounts, adhering to the facilitated definition provided for in the same financial law.

The Municipality of Milan will communicate its decision to the National Collection Agent by tomorrow and will send it to the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
