Town Council. The 2020-2022 budget forecast has been approved

A 3 million fund for the Coronavirus emergency is underway. Tasca: “It must be approved so as not to block the city. Thanks to colleagues and fellow councilors, to councilors and councilors for having privileged the sense of the institutions over party interests"

Milan, March 6 2020 - With 20 votes in favor and 7 against, the City Council approved the 2020-2022 budget forecast. The final vote came after several sessions and a long marathon that ended in the night.

The approved resolution establishes the balance of the current account at 3,4 billion euros, while for the capital account it is 3 billion euros. The Chamber also discussed and voted on the creation of a 3 million euro fund to finance measures for citizens in the face of the Coronavirus emergency. The fund, for the current part, was set up with the joint contribution of the majority and the opposition, who after a political discussion that was also harsh in tone, agreed with a sense of institutional responsibility on the solution indicated.

“It was necessary to approve the budget as soon as possible in this difficult moment for Milan - states the budget councilor Roberto Tasca - in order to deal with the emergency allowing the city to continue to guarantee administrative activities. Immediately, a coordination table will open within the Presidency of the Council and composed of all the political components, to evaluate and manage the needs of the entire city. I would like to thank my colleagues and fellow councilors for the unity demonstrated in these difficult days, where the political confrontation and the general situation we are experiencing have continuously intersected. I thank the councilors and city councilors who carried out their work with correctness and sense of the institutions and allowed rapid approval. And last but not least, I thank the offices who, as always and even in complicated days, did not fail to provide their professional and decisive contribution".

The emergency fund includes an allocation of 1 million in capital account and 2 million euros in current part with which the Municipality will immediately begin to deal with the crisis. This is money intended for families facing school closures, for older and more vulnerable citizens and for the world of work. The sum is limited, but there is the Council's commitment to deepen the search for other availability. In this, the combined intervention with the Government and the Region will be essential to make each intervention compatible with the legal constraints that the Municipality must respect.
