Councilor Conte: "The optimization of the waste collection and disposal service has contributed to the reduction of the tax paid by Milanese taxpayers"

Milan, May 30 2023 – The City Council has approved the Tari tariffs for 2023. The resolution, presented to the Chamber by the Councilor for Budget and Real Estate, Emmanuel Conte, provides for a reduction in the tax for domestic users for this year and confirms all the concessions set in 2019. The revenue will cover the cost of the waste collection and disposal service carried out by AMSA, equal to approximately 299 million euros.

The municipal administration is required to update the TARI economic and financial plan every two years. From 2021 to today, the average overall cost for domestic users has decreased by 7,65%, the average cost for non-domestic users by 2,3%.

"In a historical moment in which Milanese families have to face increases linked to inflation and the cost of energy - states councilor Conte - the Municipality of Milan, by optimizing the waste collection and disposal service, has reduced the tax paid by Milanese taxpayers".

The decrease in the Tari for 2023 confirms the trend of recent years: from 2019 to today in Milan the average tariff per family has fallen from 225 euros to 204 euros, in parallel with the increase in registered users, which grew in the same years by over 50 thousand units .

"The reduction of the waste tax – explains Conte – is also affected by the increase in taxable areas, both declared and ascertained, confirming the fact that the fight against evasion and avoidance can make it possible to reduce the tax burden on citizens and businesses, improve the quality of services to the city and direct tax breaks towards the weakest groups".

Among the benefits in force since 2019, we mention those in favor of large families (with four or more members), those over 75, schools, associations, startups and commercial and artisanal activities located in areas closed to traffic for over six months for the construction of public works.
