Town Council. The amendment to the urban police regulation has been approved

Milan, July 26 2019 – With 27 votes in favor, 5 against and 4 abstentions, the City Council approved the modification of the Urban Police Regulation of the Municipality of Milan with the insertion of article 135 entitled “Urban areas where the expulsion order operates”.

The areas in which local police and law enforcement agencies will be able to issue expulsion orders are thus identified, in addition to those already provided for by Law no. 48 of 2017 which provides for the possibility of issuing this provision against anyone who carries out conduct that prevents the accessibility and use of railway, maritime airport and local, urban and extra-urban public transport infrastructures.

In fact, the same law offers the possibility for municipalities to identify further urban areas in which these same provisions can be applied.

The areas identified are those adjacent (up to 100 metres) to school buildings of all levels, university and research institutes; the areas intended for the holding of fairs, markets and public shows; public green areas; the areas adjacent to health facilities, hospitals, nursing homes and clinics; archaeological areas and parks, monumental complexes and other cultural sites and places.

Furthermore, the areas of Porta Venezia – Corso Buenos Aires are identified; former Porto di Mare – via San Dionigi – via Fabio Massimo – via Sant’Arialdo; San Siro stadium; historic center – Inner circle; ships; Darsena-Ticinese – Conca del Naviglio; Simplon – Arch of peace; Corso Garibaldi – Corso Como – Piazza Gae Aulenti; San Paolo Hospital; San Carlo Hospital – Rear Perrucchetti Barracks Area; Niguarda Hospital.

The sanctions foreseen together with the expulsion order range from 100 to 300 euros, while for the violation of the expulsion order they are added from 200 to 600 euros.
“With the green light given by the City Council we can adapt the Urban Police Regulation - said Anna Scavuzzo, deputy mayor and councilor for Security at the end of the debate in the Chamber - and provide clear indications to the local Police Officers.

The types of behaviors that may be the subject of an expulsion order do not change, but the extension to many areas and contexts of the city will be explained with a specific communication.

We will send the device to the Prefecture and also to the Police Headquarters.

We will therefore be able to strengthen the tools already available to the local police and law enforcement agencies to promote safety throughout the city.

I thank the Council for the debate and for some proposed changes which are not included in the list of areas today, but which will be monitored even more carefully".
