Milan, June 21 2021 – The political resolution for conferring honorary citizenship of Milan on the Unknown Soldier was approved by the City Council.

The Group of Gold Medals for Military Valor of Italy, in view of the approaching anniversary of the centenary of the translation of the Unknown Soldier to the altar of the Fatherland (4 November 1921), has addressed itself to promote the conferral of honorary citizenship by part of all the Municipalities to the National Association of Italian Municipalities (ANCI) which, with a note dated 16 September 2020, reported the proposal adhering to the value of the initiative, which was shared by ANCI Lombardia in February 2021, highlighting how "after a century, celebrating the Unknown Soldier means paying homage to the strength, value and tenacity of all those who, at all times and on every occasion, have sacrificed themselves for the Fatherland" and believing that the conferral of honorary citizenship on the Unknown Soldier by the municipalities contribute "not only to paying homage to the figure of the fallen, but also to making him a citizen of the entire nation".
