Testing of a new management and offering model for products and services is underway

Milan, August 28 2021 – We will focus on the fresh and very fresh sector, as well as experimenting with new distribution and logistics models capable of enhancing the last mile supply chain to relaunch the Covered Municipal Market of via Rombon, 34. These are the objectives of the guidelines for the concession assignment of the structure to So.Ge.Mi. in order to create a new and more modern multifunctional sales reality available to the city, the neighborhood and the new lifestyle and food styles of the Milanese.

The Rombon Covered Municipal Market is currently in a state of degradation due to the progressive cessation of commercial activities and the consequent maintenance deficiencies. To date, in fact, only one commercial operator remains in business on the ground floor and four operators who are assigned the cellars located in the basement for storage use.

Thanks to the intervention of So.Ge.Mi. the property will be the subject of a total structural, plant and functional redevelopment which will aim at the creation of a food market focused on "fresh" and "very fresh" thanks to a significant reorganization of the sales surfaces which will alternate fixed spaces with temporary displays. A project that aims to experimentally introduce a model of synergy between the typical and prevalent activity of the markets (wholesale sales) and the retail sales activity of the covered markets. A redevelopment that will encourage complementarity between sales and administration activities with spaces suitable for hosting cultural, recreational and aggregative activities. A synergy between the management of the building and the surrounding square which will have the aim of bringing this reality back to the center of the social, aggregative and cultural life of the neighborhood.

So.Ge.Mi. has foreseen a total investment of over 1,6 million euros for the redevelopment of the structure and its systems. Figure including the works necessary to restore the external square. The property will remain the property of the Municipality of Milan but will be leased to the company for a period of 20 years.

So.Ge.Mi. SpA is the in-house company of the Municipality of Milan whose corporate purpose is the establishment, installation and operation of wholesale markets for fruit and vegetables, flowers, seeds and plants, meat and fish products, as well as the operation of ration structures for the wholesale marketing of all fresh and preserved agricultural, food and wine products. The Company may also assume the management of logistics platform services for the procurement, storage, transport and distribution of goods, as well as the management of the Covered Municipal Markets of Milan.

Over the next few weeks, for the Covered Municipal Markets not yet involved in the identification process for the single manager, the Municipal Administration will prepare, through a tender, an important intervention for the reassignment and concession of the available and currently empty stalls in the various structures in order to to allow the commercial renewal of existing activities and make these entities increasingly in line with the needs and requirements of citizens and the neighborhoods in which they are located.
