Sixty high school boys and girls will lead the "seniors". Cocco: “A special intergenerational exchange to make the best use of the many digital services already available in Milan"

Milan, 17 October 2019 - The Municipality of Milan also joins the "Code Week", the initiative promoted by the European Commission for the spread of digital literacy.

The free event, which is part of the process leading up to the 2020 edition of #StemintheCity  (the initiative of the Municipality of Milan to promote STEM subjects and spread a new digital culture), is the result of the collaboration with Business Integration Partners, multinational consultancy, and Fondazione Mondo Digitale.

“Public and private together for a beautiful digital education initiative – commented councilor Roberta Cocco (Digital Transformation and Civic Services) –  and a precious exchange between generations. An intense morning, possible thanks to the support of Bip and Fondazione Mondo Digitale, who responded to the invitation of the Municipality of Milan by creating this special moment of "digital learning". It is our intention to create more and more opportunities to combat the digital divide and provide our citizens with the necessary tools to make the best use of the many digital services already available in Milan".

“It is from the relationships between different individuals and skills, between different motivations and stories that individual evolution and growth arise,” added Maura Satta Flores, Head of Communication and External Relations at Bip. “We live in a period in which digital skills are indispensable, but it is equally essential not to lose sight of the human component. The choice to support this ambitious project, desired and supported by the Department of Digital Transformation and Civic Services of the Municipality of Milan, represents for us the correct path towards the valorization of diversity, finally seen as one of the great opportunities offered by our times".

We are happy to have contributed to the event with our intergenerational learning model - commented Mirta Michilli, general director of the Digital World Foundation - which has now become a real public service platform for digital literacy and continuous training. We like to make it available to public administrations, enhancing the role of students as digital facilitators.

During the two-hour workshop, the students taught their special students over 60 how to best use their smartphones: how to save contacts in the address book, how to manage the phone's memory or how to choose the application suited to their needs in the stores. .

A second part was dedicated to the Internet, from connection to how to search on the web up to online communication, from creating an email address to sending emails up to the use of instant messaging on the smartphone.

Social media were the protagonists of the last session of the morning: how to sign up to Facebook, how to write a post, how to create an Instagram profile and share photos.

Finally, there is also space for Public Administration sites and applications to discover, for example, how to register on the Municipality of Milan portal, request certificates online or make an appointment to renew the electronic identity card.
