Mobility4me, five million euros financed by the Municipality and the Ministry for sustainable mobility initiatives on home-work and home-school journeys

Milan, September 6 2019 - Six new velo stations will be built by 2021, for a total of one thousand bike spaces, in addition to the two structures already in operation in Milan. It is one of the projects whose start was approved today by the municipal administration.

The projects, whose drafting has been entrusted to the Municipality's Agency for Mobility and Environment (AMAT), will be financed with approximately 5 million euros, two from the Municipality and three from the Ministry for the Environment which in 2017, as part of of Mobility4me, had chosen Milan for a co-financed national experimental program of sustainable mobility dedicated in particular to the use of bicycles and pedestrians in home-work and home-school travel, intervening on the quality and safety of the itineraries.

Among the actions of the package of initiatives defined by the Municipality of Milan, one million euros will be dedicated to the construction of six velostations, a closed and video-monitored car park therefore safe for bicycles, in the main interchange nodes, such as M2 M3 Centrale, M5 Bignami, M1 Bisceglie, FS Bovisa, M3 Maciachini, M1 Molino Dorino.

The construction of the velo stations is scheduled for 2021. These new structures are added to the two already present, Comasina and in the Piazzale Abbiategrasso M2 interchange car park opened in recent days, for a total of eight velo stations. The Mobility4me package also includes the creation of 15 new BikeMi bike sharing stations and the supply of 300 new pedal-assisted bikes for a total of 1,4 million euros, already in the implementation phase.

Furthermore, the provision of concessions, mobility vouchers and prizes for workers of private companies and universities is envisaged to encourage the use and integration of public transport; platforms between mobility managers and packages for companies that want to encourage home-work travel in the metropolitan city area, approximately 2,1 million euros are dedicated to this objective. Finally, 400 thousand euros dedicated to schools to promote, develop and secure pedestrian and cycle bus services created by associations together with the Mobility and Education departments.
