Sforzesco Castle. A virtual exhibition around Raphael and his myth

Sforzesco Castle. A virtual exhibition around Raphael and his myth

Milan, January 15 2021 – The exhibition “Giuseppe Bossi and Raphael at the Sforzesco Castle in Milan”, set up in the exhibition rooms of the ancient Spanish hospital, is now also a virtual tour thanks to a 3D mapping of the installation which faithfully replicates the physical space of the exhibition and is accessible with smartphones, PCs and tablets.

The virtual experience is not intended, of course, to replace the in-person visit, but while waiting for the museums to reopen, it allows us to delve deeper, together with the catalogue, into the talent and work of the master from Urbino through the gaze and works of Giuseppe Bossi (1777 -1815), painter, writer, passionate collector and protagonist of Neoclassicism in Milan and Lombardy.
Discover the project with the virtual tour, accessible from the website www.milanocastello.it and created by Skiraliving3d.

Originally from Busto Arsizio, Giuseppe Bossi left an important mark on the culture of his time, also thanks to his role as secretary of the Brera Academy of Fine Arts and his close connections with political and nobility figures. Part of his precious collection of sculptures and majolica is today preserved in the Sforzesco Castle, while his rich collection of drawings, with works by artists such as Leonardo, Michelangelo and Raphael, is kept in the Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice.

In the exhibition, curated by Claudio Salsi with the collaboration of Alessia Alberti, Giovanna Mori and Francesca Tasso, you can admire works on paper and majolica created by Giuseppe Bossi and inspired by Raphael's inventions. Bossi demonstrates, both in his artistic and collecting choices, a conscious recovery of the ancient and a profound admiration for the Renaissance masters: Raphael's art is recognized by Bossi as the quintessence of ideal beauty and is copied, meditated and reinterpreted in his production, especially in the drawings, in a continuous and profound dialogue with the subjects and with the technique that it sometimes even gives rise to false attributions from scholars.

Many multimedia contents are available to the public - photographs, videos, descriptions and links - which allow you to discover how Raphael's fame has grown over the centuries and what it means to be custodians of his myth.

The exhibition is part of a larger project, entitled “Raffaello. Guardians of the myth in Lombardy ”which involves Fondazione Brescia museums, Castello Sforzesco in Milan and a series of institutions in the region, conceived on the occasion of the five hundredth anniversary of his death.
