Public housing. Tenants with mobility difficulties, help to go up and down the stairs starts again with the Red Cross

Rabaiotti: “A very useful service, which supports the commitment of the Municipality and MM on the maintenance of the lifts. The works financed with 9 million have begun, the first interventions on 55 plants "

Milan, 11 April 2021 - Concrete help for people with mobility difficulties who live in the council houses of the Municipality managed by MM.

The help service for going up or down the stairs of your building, already activated on an experimental basis in 2018, resumes, in collaboration with the Italian Red Cross. It covers the entire city of Milan and is aimed at tenants of buildings in which the elevator is blocked or undergoing maintenance, or is absent, to guarantee all citizens with motor disabilities, even temporary, the possibility of going down the stairs when necessary - such as going to work, school or a medical visit - and then returning At home.

“A precious and very useful service - says the councilor for social and housing policies Gabriele Rabaiotti - which in fact we had already activated in the past. This obviously strengthens and does not replace the commitment of the Municipality and MM in repairing broken elevators or replacing them, where necessary, which remains a priority and for which we have in fact recently promoted and financed an extraordinary dedicated program. But it is important and a sign of attention towards those who live in public housing if, while waiting for the technicians, the needs of the tenants can be met, especially the weakest ones".

”MM confirms its support to the Municipality for activities aimed at improving the quality of life of our tenants - says the president of the company, Simone Dragone -. The agreement with the Red Cross that we recently signed is a further step in the framework of our mission, together with the continuous important ordinary and extraordinary maintenance interventions".

Precisely on this last chapter, an extraordinary maintenance activity on the systems began at the end of last year (in public housing there are a total of 850, often old and therefore damaged), already financed with 9 million euros. The works included in the first contract - which with a value of 2,4 million euros concerns 55 systems in 32 complexes - started in the buildings in Nikolajevka Street, where six elevators are being renovated. The interventions will be completed by the summer, after which a similar redevelopment in the streets of San Romanello, Rossellini, Faenza, Drago, Lopez, Satta is planned, with works already entrusted.

The help service for transport to and from your apartment is carried out by Red Cross volunteers and is active from Monday to Friday between 07:00 and 18:00, Saturdays from 07:00 to 13:00. It can be requested by contacting the free toll-free number 800.01.31.91. To guarantee more punctuality of the intervention it is necessary to book in advance.
