Water houses. MM and Municipality working on 30 new placements by 2021

The network goes from 22 to 52 homes and will be distributed in all neighborhoods of the city

Milan, 18 March 2020 - Starting from the spring of 2021, the water houses present in the Milanese neighborhoods will go from the current 22 to 52, with an increase in the network of 136%. This is what was presented by the Municipality and MM at the Conference of Municipalities which was held yesterday, Tuesday 17 March, via remote connection.

The councilor for Mobility and Public Works Marco Granelli presented the location plan (link) to the representatives of the Municipalities with the list of 21 new locations that have already been identified. Another nine water houses will be placed in chosen locations with each of the nine municipalities for a total of 30 locations.

The deadlines for submitting applications expire these days and MM technicians have already carried out inspections to ensure that all the new free natural and sparkling water dispensing stations will be completed by spring 2021. There are various criteria for choosing the location: pedestrian, residential or green areas; areas which during the summer reach a temperature of 36,6° or for which citizens, municipalities or representatives of the Neighborhood Plan have made a request.

The first placement was in 2013 and since then the 22 water houses already present have supplied almost eight million liters of water with a saving of 245 thousand kg of Co2 and over 210 thousand kg of PET plastic. To access the service, the regional service card is sufficient. The system delivers up to 6 liters of water per person per day.
