Cascina Nosedo. The first spaces of the new hub for the development of urban metabolism have opened
Milan, September 2 2021 – Milan believes in the green turning point, in the development of new entrepreneurship in the agri-food sector and in the valorisation of the city's rural heritage. The new spaces inside Cascina Nosedo were inaugurated today which will host, thanks to the collaboration with MM Spa, the innovative research center dedicated to the "Metabolism of the Integrated Water Service of the city of Milan" which will address and develop the themes of reuse , the circular economy and urban resilience.
The spaces of Cascina Nosedo will continue to host the business projects and training activities born as part of the European project Open Agri - New Skills for new Jobs in Periurban Agriculture, aimed at the development of peri-urban agriculture and the valorisation of the city's rural heritage . A project which in recent years has seen, in addition to the direct involvement of the municipal administration, also the participation of 15 different realities from the university, associative and entrepreneurial world.
At the same time, through the new partnership with MM Spa, Cascina Nosedo will see the birth of the first "Laboratory for Urban Metabolism", an experimental center on the themes of reuse, circular economy and urban resilience, in particular water and protection of groundwater. In addition to its function as a research hub, the new hub envisages the creation of dissemination spaces, areas dedicated to the incubation of innovative startups and to local associations that wish to valorise, for example, the products generated by experimental crops grown internally. The new reality will also make its spaces available to carry out social, cultural and aggregative initiatives aimed at local communities in collaboration with Third Sector bodies and any other entities with which to build collaborations in order to enhance a continuous and interactive dialogue between the territory and the structure.
The feasibility project for the valorisation of Cascina Nosedo has already been presented by MM Spa, now being examined by an inter-directional working group of the Municipality of Milan, which will lead to the drafting of the agreement for the surface right until 2037 and start of the construction site for the complete redevelopment. In 2020, in fact, the guidelines on the objectives and functions relating to the structure were launched, providing for three macro areas of activity: a research hub, areas dedicated to the incubation of start-ups and areas dedicated to local associations and of neighborhood.
