Home. The Council decides on three important measures to support housing

The Workers' Home, Birth Rental Support and Move-in San Siro projects have been approved

Milan, March 11 2023 – In view of the Living Forum which will be held at Base Milano from 20 to 22 March, the Municipality of Milan will publish in the next few days the new strategic vision document - Housing Plan 2025 to manage high rents and improve the quality of life in popular neighborhoods, address the issue of short-term rentals and the cost of properties.
Meanwhile, in today's session the municipal council approved three projects that anticipate the strategy to respond to the need for housing in the city: 'Home for Workers', 'Support for Birth Rentals' and 'Move-In San Siro'. Measures that may affect different segments of the population in Milan.

With the 'Home to Workers' programme, the first 300 currently vacant municipal-owned apartments will be assigned to the project and will be reserved for rent to workers with ISEE up to 26 thousand euros. The new tenants will take care of the renovation which will be partly deducted from the costs of the subsidized rental. In this way it will be possible to rent the 300 apartments at around half the market price. The houses are located mainly in the Gallaratese, Niguarda and Barona districts. After the definitive authorization by the Lombardy Region it will be possible to assign these 300 apartments particularly to workers in essential services and to public and private companies that decide to collaborate with the Municipality of Milan. Over the next few months, the municipal administration aims to increase this to a total of 2 thousand homes.

The other important news concerns the 'Support for Natality Rentals' resolution which provides for a contribution of 250 euros per month for three years (3 thousand euros per year) to families under 35 residing in Milan with a child born in 2023 and with ISEE up to 30 thousand euros. This is the highest birth bonus currently present in Italy to which a 3 million euro fund has been allocated, previously used on a one-off basis.

Among the interventions approved by the Council today there is also Move-in San Siro linked to the Innovative Program for the Quality of Living (PINQUA). This involves the redevelopment and rationalization of real estate units and common areas in the San Siro district which will involve 75 apartments owned by the municipality in via Paravia and another 44 apartments in the San Siro district owned by Aler (yet to be identified) which will be made available to the Municipality of Milan to be allocated to specific social projects.

"It is necessary to think of new solutions to respond to the needs of the many who are looking for accommodation in Milan today – declares Pierfrancesco Maran, councilor for housing –. With these resolutions we are intervening with an important experiment that will allow us to assign 2 thousand apartments to as many workers, including also numerous people employed in essential services for Milan. At the same time, through the Birth Rental Support, we organize what is currently the highest support for the birth rate present in Italian municipalities. Furthermore, in the next few days we will present the strategic vision document, Housing Plan 2025, which will be discussed at the Living Forum in a discussion to which all citizens are invited".
