Milan, June 4 2019 - The second edition of the International Social Housing Festival: representing the city of Milan will be the councilor for Housing and Public Works Gabriele Rabaiotti, who will speak at the opening ceremony scheduled for the afternoon starting from 15pm.
Inaugurated two years ago in Amsterdam, the Festival will continue until Saturday 8th and is organized by Housing Europe, the international network representing 45 federations representing 43 thousand owners, managers and tenants in 24 countries, by Union social pour l'Abitat ( which brings together 700 social housing operators), from Grand Lyon (the metropolitan area of ​​Lyon) and from Aura Hlm, the network of managers of the regional area of ​​Lyon.

At today's opening, Rabaiotti will be attended by, among others, the president of Housing Europe Cédric Van Styvendael, the president of Aura Hlm Guy Vidal, Max Van Engen representing the city of Amsterdam, Georg Niedermuehlbichler for the city of Vienna, Ossi Savolainen mayor of the Helsinki region, David Kimelfeld, president of the Lyon Metropolitan Area, Marianne Louis, director of the Union Sociale pour l'Habitat and Leilina Farha representing the UN.

Councilor Rabaiotti will bring to the attention of international operators the national framework on the subject and, in particular, the experience of Milan which, in the newly approved PGT, introduced rules that favor social rental housing: in fact, the mandatory minimum index and public residential construction included among the standards, thus facilitating those who intend to allocate part of the buildings to rent at affordable rents.

Today's ceremony will be the opportunity for a new international alliance, capable of responding to the most pressing needs of our time, summarized in the phrase 'a planet for tomorrow, a city for all, a home for each one'. At the end of the day, in fact, an appeal will be signed by all those present addressed to the European Commission and the next Parliament to adopt a plan for social housing and discuss some concrete proposals: among these, that social and accessible housing become one of the key points of the European agenda, that a dedicated fund be established for its development, and that assistance and the possibility of housing responses for those in emergency are implemented.
