Milan, October 19 2021 – The Councilor for Security Marco Granelli participated this morning, in via Vallazze 89, in the laying of wreaths in memory of Carlo Buonantuono and Vincenzo Tumminello. Present were the Police Commissioner of Milan, Giuseppe Petronzi, Danilo Cinotti and Carlo Antignani, nephews of Agent Carlo Buonantuono, and Vincenzo Tumminello, son of Agent Vincenzo Tumminello.

Two students from the “Alessandro Volta” Scientific High School in Milan also took part in the ceremony, as part of a project of the cultural association “MEMENTO Percorsi della Memoria”, coordinated by the journalist Danilo Della Mura.

On 19 October 1981 the guards Carlo Buonantuono and Vincenzo Tumminello were members of a self-assembled patrol of the State Police. They were preparing to check a suspicious car when they were brutally killed with gunshots fired by the occupants, identified as terrorists belonging to the far-right subversive formation "Nuclei Armati Rivoluzionari" (NAR). A third police operator managed to escape the ambush although he was injured.

Carlo Buonantuono joined the Police in 1973 and, after attending the Student School of Trieste, entered service in the Police Department of Milan and the Milan Police Headquarters. Awarded the gold medal for Civil Merit "to memory", on 31 March 2005.

Vincenzo Tumminello, who joined the Police in 1979 after the Bolzano Student School, had served at the Milan Police Headquarters. Awarded the gold medal for Civil Merit "to memory", on 31 March 2005.
