Milan, September 24 2020 – Also, and above all, in this delicate post-confinement moment, the Municipality of Milan intends to celebrate the last day of the year with a new and yet to be invented initiative, capable of replacing, in terms of artistic quality and capacity for involvement , the traditional concert in Piazza Duomo, which this year, for obvious reasons, cannot take place.
The Administration has published a notice (starting today on the website of the Municipality of Milan, deadline 23 October) for the selection of proposals and projects that take into account the complex current situation of our city, but also the desire to start again, to reclaim the spaces and to increase tourism in Milan as much as possible.
Participants will be able to propose a multimedia and/or entertainment event, involving performances, installations and lighting projects such as video mapping and projections, even in an integrated form: an event, in short, which can animate the spaces, the historic buildings and the Duomo, giving prominence to the Christmas displays already present in the square, in line with the "Christmas of the Trees" project, and giving the Milanese and tourists a magical and evocative atmosphere.
If the presence of the public is foreseen for the proposed initiative, access must be free and must take place in compliance with the cultural, artistic and environmental vocation of the square. In any case, it must respect the environmental sustainability criteria adopted by the Municipality of Milan for the creation of events.
The projects presented must be autonomous from an ideational, organisational, administrative and financial point of view, and the organizers must independently search for sponsors and partners; but the Municipality will make available to the winning entity a share of the costs of carrying out the project equal to 40%, net of sponsorships and any income, up to a maximum of 100.000 euros.
The three subjects who rank second, third and fourth in the ranking will be granted a lump sum reimbursement for the documented costs incurred for the design, for a maximum of 2.500 euros. An innovative gesture of great attention towards a sector, that of live events and initiatives, which was heavily damaged by the lockdown and which is still suffering due to the regulations for the containment of contagion.
The Municipality will guarantee the winner exemption from the payment of the Public Areas Occupation Fee (COSAP) for cultural activities, excluding commercial ones, support in carrying out the procedures for obtaining permits and authorizations, cleaning and collection service waste and the coordination and support of the promotion and communication activities of the initiative.
